Most cats drink less water than they should. It's an instinct from their desert ancestors — still water in the wild often meant stagnant water, which often meant illness. The bowl on your kitchen floor doesn't trigger the same response that a moving stream does.

The PawSip is a 3-litre circulating water fountain built for cats and small dogs who'd rather drink from the tap than the bowl. The pump runs near-silently in the background, the soft LED ring lets you see the water level in low light, and the activated-carbon filter keeps the water cleaner between refills than a static bowl ever will.

Vets have recommended water fountains for years for cats prone to under-drinking. This is a tidy, well-built version of that idea — three litres, USB-powered, available in white or blue.

At a glance

  • 3-litre reservoir — refills less often, suits multi-pet households
  • Ultra-quiet pump — typically near-silent in normal operation
  • Soft blue LED — water level visible at night without disturbing your pet
  • Built-in low-water sensor — LED switches to red and the pump shuts off automatically when refill is needed
  • Replaceable activated-carbon circulation filter
  • USB-powered (5V) — works from a wall adapter, laptop or USB hub
  • Detachable parts for easy weekly cleaning
  • Two colours — white or blue
  • Free worldwide delivery, fully tracked

Why running water actually matters

Cats descended from desert ancestors and they get most of their hydration from prey. A modern indoor cat eating dry food doesn't get that built-in moisture — and the same instinct that told their wild relatives to drink from running streams (because still water often wasn't safe) tells your cat to walk past the bowl and lick the dripping bathroom tap.

A circulating fountain works around the instinct instead of fighting it. Most cats drink noticeably more from a moving source than from a static bowl. That's not a marketing claim — it's the reason every veterinary nurse recommends fountains for cats at risk of urinary or kidney issues.

A pump that knows when to stop

The pump has a built-in indicator light and a low-water sensor. While the water level is healthy, the indicator glows soft — your cue at a glance that it's running. When the water drops too low, it switches to red and the pump shuts itself off automatically.

That second part matters more than it sounds. Dry-running — pumping when there's no water left — is the single most common cause of fountain pump failure. Most cheap fountains will burn out the pump within weeks if you forget to top them up over a weekend away. The auto-shutoff means yours won't.

Designed to fade into the room

The pump runs at a level most owners describe as inaudible. No clicking, no buzzing, no white-noise hum — just a faint trickle of water, which is the part the cat is meant to hear. The LED is a soft underglow, not a glaring nightlight; bright enough to find the bowl in the dark but soft enough that it doesn't compete with your TV.

The shape is rounded, the spout is moulded into the lid rather than printed on, and the available finishes both read as appliance, not pet equipment.

The filter, honestly

The filter is a replaceable activated-carbon disc that catches hair, debris and odour as the water cycles through. It's not a magic forever-clean device. For best performance, swap the filter every four to six weeks (more often if you have long-haired cats or multiple pets) and clean the pump, basin and lid weekly to stop biofilm building up.

One filter is included pre-installed in the fountain. Replacements are stocked alongside this product as a 6-pack — see the recommended add-ons. A 6-pack covers roughly six to nine months in a single-cat household.

A few honest notes on use

Maintenance: a fountain is not a fit-and-forget device. Replace the filter every 4–6 weeks and clean the pump and basin weekly to keep the water genuinely clean. Skipping cleaning defeats the point of using a fountain at all.

Power: a USB-A cable is included. You'll need a standard USB wall adapter, USB hub, or laptop USB port to plug it into — these are not supplied. Keep the cable and adapter clear of the water and out of pet-chew range.

Vet advice: a fountain encourages drinking but isn't a substitute for veterinary care. If your pet shows signs of dehydration (lethargy, sunken eyes, sticky gums) speak to a vet.

Frequently asked

Will my cat actually use it?

Most cats take to a fountain within a few days. A few are nervous of the sound or the moving water at first — leave both the fountain and the old water bowl out for the first week so they can choose, and gradually phase the static bowl out once they're using the fountain reliably.

How often do I need to change the filter?

Every 4–6 weeks under normal use. Sooner if you have long-haired cats or multiple pets — fur clogs the filter faster. One filter is included pre-installed in the fountain. Replacement 6-packs are stocked alongside this product and last roughly six to nine months in a single-cat household.

What does the auto-shutoff actually do?

The pump has a sensor that detects when the water level drops below a safe minimum. Once it does, the pump stops and the indicator turns red. This protects the pump from dry-running — which is what burns out cheap fountain pumps in days. Refill the basin and the pump restarts on its own.

Is it safe for kittens and small dogs?

Yes — the basin is shallow and the design is stable when full. We'd recommend supervising kittens for the first few uses to make sure they're confident around the moving water. For dogs, suitable for any toy or small breed; medium and large breeds will empty 3 litres too quickly.

How much electricity does it use?

The pump is a low-wattage 5V USB device — running cost is pennies per month. Far less than the energy you'd use boiling a kettle once.

White or blue?

Both are the same fountain with the same spec — same blue LED, same low-water red warning, same pump. White is the more discreet choice and disappears into a kitchen. Blue is more of a statement and tends to suit minimal modern interiors. Pick whichever sits best in the spot you have in mind.

Do I need to buy anything else to plug it in?

A USB-A cable is included in the box. You'll need a standard USB wall adapter (the kind that comes with most phones) or a USB hub or laptop USB port to plug the cable into — these aren't supplied. If you don't already have a spare phone-style USB plug somewhere in the house, pick one up at the same time.

That ending 😫
Format: Kindle
I fell into a false sense of security and really thought this was gearing towards a happy ending. Then I realized there’s no work they don’t punish Andrew. I really liked Vale’s character. I don’t normally read books with pregnancy but going into this knowing she was pregnant made it more enjoyable for me. I loved Bishops devotion to her and her happiness. I also loved that Holt and Mercy couldn’t fight their attraction to her. I love scent matches so very much. I’m so curious to see how this duet will end up. And I need to pay more attention and notice that a book I’m starting is a duet to begin with lol

Baby bumps and bodyguards
Format: Kindle
Dark, emotional, and unexpectedly tender, Not Ready is an omegaverse romance that delivers found family feels, fierce protectiveness, and a very pregnant heroine who refuses to break. Vale’s on the run from a stalker, but lands in the arms of three private security alphas, cue the swoony tension, fake marriage twist, and slow-burn heat. It’s a little gritty, a little soft, and a whole lot addictive. If you love protective alphas, high stakes, and heroines with quiet strength, this one’s a must-read.

Strong Omegaverse Comfort and a Attention Grabbing Plot
Format: Kindle
Jillian West never misses when it comes to Omegaverse, and Not Ready is no exception. This story was the perfect blend of cozy comfort and emotional depth while still delivering a strong plot. Vale is such a powerful heroine, she is strong, capable, and determined but I love that she still allows her pack to love and take care of her. It’s that balance of independence and vulnerability that makes her so relatable. The relationship dynamics were amazing: Bishop is steadfast and completely head over heels, Mercy is skeptical but protective in his own way, and Holt is the hesitant one whose slow fall is so satisfying to watch unfold. The romance hits that sweet spot between insta-love and cautious build, keeping me hooked the entire way through. And that ending. Oh my god, the cliffhanger! I need the next book in this duet immediately.
