José “Pete” Martinez-Berlanga (March 13, 1913 - January 30, 1997) was a male dancer with whom Lincoln Kirstein maintained a liaison until his marriage. Martinez was from Los Angeles, where he had received his early dance training, and had entered the School of American Ballet as soon as he came to New York. Kirstein and he lived together, and when Lincoln Kirstein married Fidelma Cadmus in 1941, she moved into their apartment with them temporarily. Robert McVoy was a fellow dancer of Pete Martinez in Lincoln Kirstein’s company. Theodore "Ted" Starkowski was George Platt Lynes's lover. Mel Fillini was a Broadway actor. Ralph McWilliams was the new “addition” to the circle of friends after Pete Martinez went away to Norfolk searching for being enlisted.

José Martinez, who died in 1997, less than a year after Lincoln Kirstein, was a droll and witty young man of Mexican origin. Those who knew the two men in the 1930s said he was capable of endlessly amusing his lover, and that of all the men in his life, Martinez was the man that Kirstein most likely loved the most. Kirstein loved gossip and other men’s tales of their sexual exploits, and this love of storytelling drew him to Martinez. In addition, Martinez was handsome, and many artists painted, drew, and photographed him. Fidelma Cadmus drew him, Paul Cadmus drew and painted him, and George Platt-Lynes created a beautiful series of photos of him nude in a windowlike aperture, wearing a large straw hat.

Martinez was a member of Ballet Caravan. Organized by Kirstein, this company toured the United States, visiting many smaller cities as well as large ones. Their repertoire was very different from the classical companies, Colonel de Basil’s Ballet Russe and the Ballet Russe de Monte Carlo, the two offshoot companies from the original Sergei Diaghilev companies. Other young male dancers added to the company during this period were Nicholas Magallanes and Francisco Moncion, both of Latin American origin and both of whom were to remain with George Balanchine and Kirstein throughout their long careers. Magallanes was discovered by Kirstein’s painter friend Pavel Tchelitchev, roaming the streets of New York. Tchelitchev not only used him as central figure in his large painting Phenomena, but brought him to Kirstein to study dance. He immediately showed talent and became one of the leading dancers of what eventually became the New York City Ballet.

This has been a challenge for my extreme chewer! The toy is winning
Color: Green
Indestructible? Not for my pitbull. Except on this toy. She has slowly chewed some of the outer portion on the backside, but it still has a lot of gnawing time left. This is her go-to toy now. she carries it nearly everywhere. She loves it. I am amazed at how well it is holding up. Within minutes, hours or a few days, the other "indestructible" toys I've purchased, never survived as described. This is a heavy toy! Not for the weak! I cannot stress enough the extreme chewer my dog is. Yet, I can see this toy lasting months. It won't be pretty then but it will most likely still be a favorite chew toy. I'm glad I found this and will be buying more. FYI's... 1) Chewability-5 stars 2) Softness-1 star, it's solid but chewable, 3) Bounce-0 stars, No bounce, it's heavy!, Playability- 5 stars. My dog plays with it, lets it lay with her when resting. Nearly always within her reach. She sleeps with it! That's love.

My buddy has been chewing on this for an hour!
Color: Green, Color: Green
This dog toy has been a great addition to our dog’s toy collection! My dog can be a pretty aggressive chewer, so I’m always looking for toys that are durable and can actually hold up to daily play. This one has been surprisingly tough and has lasted much longer than many other toys we’ve tried. The material feels strong and well made, and the design makes it easy for my dog to grip and chew. He loves carrying it around and tossing it during playtime. It’s also great for keeping him busy and helping reduce boredom, especially when he has extra energy to burn. Another thing I like is the texture of the toy. It seems to help keep my dog engaged, and it’s sturdy enough that I don’t worry about it falling apart right away like some softer toys do. It’s been used for chewing, tugging, and even some fetch around the house, and it’s still holding up really well. The only small drawback is that I wish it had a squeaker inside. My dog absolutely loves squeaky toys, and I think that would make it even more exciting and keep him interested for longer periods of time. Overall though, this is a very solid and durable dog toy that’s perfect for dogs that love to chew. If you’re looking for something tough that can help keep your dog entertained and reduce boredom, this is definitely worth try

Quality material and looks good.
Color: Green
Great chew toy for medium to large dogs. Seems to hold up to their chewing. Very heavy and could damage floors or furniture if your dog happens to throw it in the air.
