About the work

Mary Ramsden’s paintings explore the space between virtual images and the object. Usings rags and brushes as well as her own hands, she produces marks and textures that allude to the cropping and zooming methods of a digital operator and the swipe action that activates a smart phone. For her edition for the Whitechapel Gallery Ramsden has made a single gesture or ‘swipe’ directly onto the copper etching plate, which has then been printed to create a varied edition of 35 sugar lift aquatints.
This edition was produced to accompany Ramsden’s paintings on display in The London Open 2015, the Whitechapel Gallery’s triennial open submission exhibition, from 15 July–6 September 2015.

About the artist

British artist Mary Ramsden was born in 1984, and has studied at the Royal Academy, London, Edinburgh College of Art and Leith School of Art, Edinburgh. Her works are known for being “unapologetically painterly” but are always abstract in composition and strategic in refusal of referential readings. A sense of simplicity and compositional unity belies the complexity of their making. Ramsden decisively applies layers of paint using brushes and rags as well as her own hands, but subsequently wipes them away to create gradual build up of repetitive layers through the conflicting actions of doing and undoing. The artist’s gesture takes centre stage, but not only the energised swing of the arm but the aftermath of the action.

Quality valet tray, darker brown
Color: Brown, Color: Brown
Sizing is as described and it is sturdy and well-made, but color is not quite as shown in the product images, more of a darker brown.

Great organizer
Color: Black with Lid
This is a nice organizer for items that men have in their pockets or need to grab quickly when they go out. The wireless charger is a nice upgrade from older style valets.

Love the design and shape - Customer Service Amazing
Color: Black with Lid
UPDATED READ BELOW: Initial review: I think this is a great product, at a great price. Unfortunately, the wireless charger mine came with doesn’t work. It’ll charge for a few seconds, shut off, start charging, immediately shut back off - repeating this cycle. I’ve used the included cable, and two other cables as well as different outlets. Unfortunately, I threw out the box before checking this so can’t return to replace it…ugh Updated approx 3 weeks later: Seller reached out and sent me a replacement charger at no cost, it works perfectly so far (even though it has been a day lol) but no issues, no complaints here. Love this organizer - feels premium. Definitely recommend
