1 x Church Road Tom Hawke's Bay Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 2019

A core of dark berry fruit and plum is lifted by top notes of rosewood, cedar and violet with a cooler fragrant hint of cardamom. A savoury dark earthy complexity and a thread of graphite brings a more serious, brooding undertone to the wine. On the palate the wine is medium/full bodied with gentle mid palate flesh, finishing with a long, fine, supple tannin structure. This is a dense yet elegant wine with great depth which will reward long term cellaring until 2029 – 2044.

68.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 31% Merlot and 0.5% Malbec.

Medium dark crimson with garnet hues. Floral lift, perfumed blueberries and hints of cocoa with overtones of violets and cooling dried herbs. Elegant and structural at its core with fine chalky tannins complimented by an even floral fruit spectrum, enhanced with subtle toasted oak. Ideal drinking between 2021-2029.

Deep purple. A dense wine with dark, brooding flavours. Assertive tannin combines with intense plum and chocolate to give a wine that will age gracefully. Plum and dark chocolate with cedar/mahogany notes.

Dark crimson red with excellent depth. A focussed wine displaying youthful primary fruit flavours of cassis and black berry on the mid-palate. The tight tannin structure and balanced acidity drive a palate of excellent length and clarity. Influences of French oak in the form of toasted cedar notes are apparent but restrained. Primarily, classic Cabernet Sauvignon aromas of blackberry leaf, give way to hints of darker berry fruits. Subsequent notes of French oak, savoury leather and spice enhance the interest in this wine.

A core of dark plum and red and black berry fruits are overlaid with classic Hawkes Bay Syrah floral perfume and exotic warm spice. There are also darker liquorice, mineral and earth notes that bring a serious brooding undertone, while subtle oak brings extra complexity and texture, imparting notes of vanilla, roasted cacao and a hint of smoke. On the palate the wine is medium-full bodied with an impression of sweet fruit and long finish driven by silky tannins and gentle acidity.

Food Pairing: Well matched to a wide range of full flavoured game and red meat dishes.

The 2019 is heavily merlot dominant, with the typical dark berry and plum fruit of the variety. This is lifted by top notes of fragrant violet and subtle spice. A savoury dark earthy complexity brings a more serious, brooding undertone to the wine. On the palate the wine is full bodied with good mid palate flesh, finishing with a long, fine tannin structure that will soften with time and ensure good cellaring potential.

A red blend of 83% Merlot, 14% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Malbec
