*New! Snuggly Merino wool socks for winter, knitted in patterns inspired by traditional Swedish motifs.

Gorgeous fine merino socks made in Sweden by Öjbro Vantfabrik. Knit with reinforced heel & toe for extra strength, and dyed in subtle natural colours. Wonderfully cosy for home, work, or out and about.

Öjbro Vantfabrik is dedicated to preserving and sharing Swedish knitting heritage. Each pair of beautiful jacquard knit socks features a design drawn from traditional patterns and personal stories.

The Darlana design is inspired by Sweden's famous Dala horse, which is typically painted with the traditional Kirbits pattern. A blue colourway of this design is also available in a woven blanket. See below to read the Darlana story.

Colour: Darlana Red

Sizes: EU 34/37, EU 38/41, EU 42/45

About the fit: Öjbro socks are jacquard-knitted: this is stranded colourwork characterised by floats on the inside which carry the coloured yarns and create such intricate patterns. This means each pair gets its own little personality. It also changes the thickness of the sock, and affects the fit. Some socks fit a bit slimmer, others a bit more “hug-friendly.” Wondering about the fit? See below:

Fit advice:

  • SLIM - fits like a gentle little foot hug. Patterns: Futhark, Lycksele
  • MED - the sweet-spot fit for most feet. Patterns: Ekshärad, Fästfolk, Gotland, Kören, Yggdrasil
  • GENEROUS - for those who like a bit of extra wiggle room for their toes. Patterns: Dalarna, Haga, Skaftö, Skogen.

How to put them on:
Because jacquard socks have floats on the inside, we recommend you put your socks on like your mum used to do for you when you were a child. Bunch them up to the toe, put your foot in place and then unravel the rest of the sock up your leg. Don’t try to just shove your whole foot in from the cuff as your toes might catch some of the floats!!

Brand: Öjbro Vantfabrik
Designed in: Sweden
Origin of Fibre: Italy
Country of manufacture: Sweden
Fabric structure: Knitted from Merino wool with Lycra, reinforced in toe and heel with Polyamide (80% Merino - mulesing free, 5% Lycra, 15% Polyamide)
100% biodegradable: No
Machine Washable: Yes (see our guide to washing wool)

Care: Handwash using a gentle wool shampoo recommended for best results. To machine wash, choose a cold wool cycle, skipping the spin cycle. Dry flat on a towel, gently reshaping while wet. Do not tumble dry. Wool feels comfortable and dry, even when you sweat. It can absorb a lot of moisture (up to 33% of its dry weight). Air between uses, wash only when required.

The story of the Dalarna pattern: Designer Åse Öjbro, founder of Öjbro Vantfabrik, has created the Dalarna design to celebrate the dalahäst (Sweden's Dala horse, a traditional painted wooden toy). In this design the horse is surrounded by kurbits-inspired decorations.

"I visited Dalarna many times as a child and I will never forget the impressive mine. It was amazing to hear the stories about Falun's important impact on Sweden's prosperity. The mine is no longer active and is now a world cultural heritage site. To me, the Swedish soul is in the red cabins, the folklore theatre and the Swedish crispbread. Dalarna is simply a balm for the soul, and I wanted to honour the most Swedish symbol we have through my interpretation of our dalahäst."

The oldest mention of Dalarna is from the “Sverresagan” from the late 1100s, in which the landscape was called Järnbärarland and was described as a pagan land. Early on, the southern parts of the region, as well as the Bergslagen area, was industrialised. The region otherwise remained a settler area, especially in the areas around Siljan and Dalälven.

Falu mine is one of Sweden's oldest copper mines. The work at the mine was dangerous and arduous, but as early as the 1600s the miners had a fair wage and regulated working hours. Technical knowledge was high, and the best engineers in Europe worked to streamline production. During the 1600s, Falu mine was Sweden's largest and most modern workplace, responsible for over 70 percent of Europe's copper production. The mine was called Sweden's treasure chest and its development influenced the economic, social and political situation in Sweden as well as Europe.

Broke Within Moments
My two medium sized dogs played tug of war ONE time and it ripped in half. Not durable at all. Did not hold up well.

My dogs love fetching this toy, then fighting over who’s going to bring it back to me
Both of my miniature dachshunds took to this tug of war toy immediately after opening it. I liked the fact it didn’t smell terrible like most of the scented dog toys I’ve purchased in the past. Instead this one actually smells good, it’s sweet and fruity smelling. It’s extremely durable and very heavy duty. The only problem is that it’s pretty thick and heavy, especially for my small dogs. They still like playing fetch with it, then fighting over which one gets to bring it back to me. It really would have been the perfect fetching toy for them, if only it had been a little bit smaller and lighter. If you have larger sized dogs who enjoy playing fetch and tug a war, I’d recommend giving it a try.

Good Quality Toy, but Not a Hit with My Dogs
I am a bit unsure about this toy. Unfortunately, my dogs do not seem to enjoy it very much. I thought the blueberry apple scent would make it more appealing, but they tend to lose interest almost as quickly as they start playing with it. I was hoping this would be something we could use for games like tug of war, but it just has not held their attention. That said, I may just have picky dogs, so this could be a different experience for others. The reason I gave it two stars instead of one is because the quality is actually quite nice. It feels well made and has a good overall design. However, I would be a little cautious giving it to aggressive chewers, as it seems a bit on the softer side. For dogs that are more gentle with their toys, it would likely be a better fit. The size is also great, and it has a lot of potential. It just has not gotten much use in our house, likely due to my dogs not being fans of the flavor. Overall, if you have picky pups like mine, this may not be the best choice. But for less selective or gentler dogs, it could still be a solid option

Stretchy, but Smaller & Softer Than Expected; Berry Fragrance Dominates; May be Best 4 Puppies
I was directed to read guidelines that were on the internet, prior to use. I was not expecting that and that was a big turn-off. Basically, it's all about liability, this product has the possibility of being torn apart and I am basically warned that if a piece is chewed off, that's bigger than a grain of rice, to toss, this. I was repeatedly reminded, again and again, and again that pet safety was my responsibility. Yeah, I know that. All these suggestions and warnings should have been made clearer in the listing. Is this built to flex? Yes. Does it bend? Yes. Does it stretch? Yes. Is this rugged? That's open to debate, based on the users, for a puppy, to some degree, but their teeth are very sharp. Is this soft on teeth? I don't disagree. Does this have a durable design? Depends on the user. Floats in water? I do not doubt it. Does this have an enticing scent? For a human, yes, for a pet? Depends if your pet loves berries. This is no pigs ear/bone, so, chewing is not a natural draw that I saw, which I think may be better, because this is soft and easier to tear to pieces than expected. To motivate the first time, I found it best to initiate the tug of war, but this is smaller than I envisioned too, causing me to have to bend considerably to participate. A tennis ball in a tube sock is longer. A two-dog tug of war works best with this. Nevertheless, it's a better toy than teaching pooch to have a battle using clothing, avoiding future attractions to my socks. There is some flexibility to this. Durability is an issue. I think this would have been more interesting if it had been made out of rawhide. It does have a comfortable grip, for a human, but the toy pays a price for that with what I would consider fragility. The berry fragrance dominates, it's nice for a human, but sorry, it ain't no bacon aroma. It's like a thick heavy rubber hose. Value? In hindsight, I just do not see the value I was expecting. I mean really, a grain of rice warning not to use. Durability at issue in my eyes. Country of origin? Vietnam. Is this perfect? Not in my opinion. Rating? A strong three (3) stars at best in my eyes. This is not for a tough chewer. I have to constantly monitor its condition. It does succeed as a tug toy, but it has more limitations that I was expecting. I hope my thoughts added a bit of information.
