This fun cowl and beanie can be made as colourful as you wish. Both pieces are knitted in rounds and feature stranded colourwork which is designed in a double knit / 8ply weight yarn, Indiecita DK 100% Baby Alpaca Yarn 50g.

The cowl begins with a provisional cast-on and then the stranded colourwork section is worked. A fold line is followed by the contrasting stocking stitch facing. The piece is folded in half and the cast-on and off edges are joined with a three-needle cast-off.
The simple colourwork pattern can be worked from the chart or the written instructions and require intermediate knitting skills.

Cowl has two sizes: circumference 60cm (135cm) & width 15cm for both sizes

Beanie has Three sizes (to fit head approx): child (adult, large adult)
Choose a size that will stretch to fit your head. This beanie is intended to be worn with approx. 3-6cm negative ease.  Please note that any alterations to the pattern may require extra yarn than stated. All measurements are approximate.

  • Head circumference: 45 (50, 55) cm
  • Depth: 17 (21, 22) cm

Gauge of pattern (after wet-blocking) is 24 sts and 29 rows over 10cm colourwork pattern swatch worked in the round using 4.5mm needles.

Cowl:
Main colour: 1 (2) balls
Contrast colour 1: 1 (1) ball
Contrast colour 2: 1 (2) balls

Beanie:
Main colour: 1 (1, 2) balls
Contrast colour 1: 1 (1, 1) ball
Optional Pom Pom in Contrast Colour 2: 1 ball

Needles & Notions:
4mm and 4.5mm circular needles, both 60cm long (for short cowl) or 100cm for long cowl, crochet hook for provisional cast-on,  set of 4mm dpns for crown
one each 3.25mm, 4mm, & 4.5mm x 40cm circular needles for beanie

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.

I love this type of story. And omegaverse is one of my all time favorite genres. But there are a few things that pulled me out of my enjoyment while I was reading.
