"Pepe's of Key West"

"Pepe's of Key West"The sixth painting of my Key West Series, Pepes of Key West, features the Eldest Eating House in the Florida Keys on Caroline Street in Key West. The food is excellent, three meals daily either inside or outside on the dirt floored patio. Ive always been fascinated by the small building and the shadows of the awning. Finally I captured a photo of a man walking past late in the afternoon, casting the shadow of his straw hat on the front of the place.

The sixth painting of my Key West Series, “Pepe’s of Key West,” features  the “Eldest Eating House in the Florida Keys” on Caroline Street in Key West.  The food is excellent, three meals daily either inside or outside on the dirt-floored patio.  I’ve always been fascinated by the small building and the shadows of the awning.  Finally I captured a photo of a man walking past late in the afternoon, casting the shadow of his straw hat on the front of the place.  For contrast and to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the 1967 model year, I chose a red 1967 Corvette convertible to be parked outside.  Some fun things going on in this work are the dark angular shadows, the string of lights on the left, and the typical KW colorful bikes on the curb.  I also chipped some yellow paint off the curbing to add some texture.
