The plant's stems are typically green to bluish-green, thick, and covered in soft, small spines that give it a textured look. As a member of the Monadenium group, Euphorbia stapelioides produces thick, succulent branches that resemble a miniaturized version of a tree, with a compact growth habit, often forming low, sprawling clumps. During the growing season, it may produce small, star-shaped flowers that are typically yellow or orange, grouped in clusters near the tips of its branches.
