Winner of the National Book Critics Circle Award for Criticism and the Mark Lynton History Prize Through the story of the pioneering photographer Eadweard Muybridge, the author of Recollections of My Nonexistence explores what it was about California in the late 19th-century that enabled it to become such a center of technological and cultural innovation The world as we know it today began in California in the late 1800s, and Eadweard Muybridge had a lot to do with it. This striking assertion is at the heart of Rebecca Solnit's new book, which weaves together biography, history, and fascinating insights into art and technology to create a boldly original portrait of America on the threshold of modernity. The story of Muybridge--who in 1872 succeeded in capturing high-speed motion photographically--becomes a lens for a larger story about the acceleration and industrialization of everyday life. Solnit shows how the peculiar freedoms and opportunities of post-Civil War California led directly to the two industries--Hollywood and Silicon Valley--that have most powerfully defined contemporary society.Binding Type: Paperback

Very comfy
Size: X-Large, Color: White
I'm a size US Mens 14 with huge calves. Finding comfortable crew socks can be somewhat difficult.
These are extremely comfortable, very stretchy and soft. Very worth the price.

I use these exclusively for when I'm hiking, cycling and walking ( exercising )
Size: X-Large, Color: Black
5.7.2019 Update:
I have probably five packs of 3 of these socks. Can't explain it but recent pairs I've been using have lasted longer than previous two packs ( 6 socks )... So I'm going to get some more...
They are my #1 go to sock for cycling, hiking, climbing, walking ( serious, training, speed, distance )...
10.30.19:
I use these exclusively for when I'm hiking, cycling anqd walking ( exeqrcising )...
They are light, comfortable, keep feet dry, cool & comfortable... They don't shift around on feet. They stay put once put on and running, climbing or cycling shoes are put on and laced up or ratched...
I do a lot of hill climbing and also use on terrain where there's lots of long periods ( hours ) going up & hours going down...
They don't appear to be very durable, get holes in toe or holes in heels, but 3 pack is relatively inexpensive so I continue to buy them.
I do not use them for everyday casual wear because they would wear out very quickly compared to other similar sockets...

These socks are just OK. One arrived with a hole (easily sewn up, but kind of bummed about that). I prefer the Under Armour Resistor socks - they have support built into the socks that you actually can feel, and they were same price for 6 pairs!
