This book is a product of more than 25 years of research on the various raw materials in the Ozarks that prehistoric Native Americans used to make chipped-stone tools. The purpose of the book is to provide a reference source or guide to the bewildering array of chipped-stone (knappable) resources available in the Ozarks.

The book is divided into two parts. Part I consists of four chapters that provide a background to the discussion of chipped-stone resources in the Ozarks. The introductory chapter includes a historical sketch of chert research in the Ozarks, terminology related to various types of lithic resources, methods used to procure and organize collected field samples, and a discussion of modern flintknapping and potential negative consequences of this ever-growing hobby/industry.

Chapter 2 is an overview of the complex physiography and geology of the Ozarks province. Chapter 3 discusses several aspects of the availability, procurement, and utilization of chert resources. The final chapter of Part I discusses several analytical methods that have been used to identify various sources and types of raw materials.
Part II is the core of the book. It details the more than 60 types of chipped-stone raw materials that are found in the Ozarks. The descriptions of local Ozarks resources are divided into six chapters arranged chronologically by geological era and period. The discussion of each resource type consists of sections on geological context, various physical attributes, the effects of heat treatment, resource distribution, and as so far is known, prehistoric utilization. A chapter on raw materials that occur in areas that surround the Ozarks is also presented.

The final chapter in Part II is a discussion of changing patterns of the prehistoric use and heat treatment of Ozarks resources through time. This book is intended for professional archaeologists, avocational archaeologists, geologists, and other researchers and laymen who may be interested in studying cherts and other chipped-stone resources in the Ozarks.

Love it.
Color: Bunny (Beige), Size: Large
Good quality and well worth the price. My dog loves it. The squeaky part is fun, and the crinkly, tear-resistant paper in the ears makes playtime even more exciting.

Great for my aggressive chewers
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1), Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
Wears my Labs out. Fred the yellow lab chooses this pig ear over all his nyla and natural chews out of the toy box all the time. This is the 4th one in his 6 years. They have lasted long and when new are large enough I don’t have to worry about choking. As they get down in size I throw them just as a precaution. The only con I can think of is Fred loves to slam it down on the pergola floor which makes for a very loud clacky sound and it scares the $%^ out of me. He of course thinks it’s funny so he picks it up and continues to do it. As long as he and his brother Willie can chew I will always have these in their toy box.

Great chew toy for large, tough chewers
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
My dog is a heavy, strong chewer over 100 lbs who will chew this for an hour. It lasts, keeps him occupied and the smell isn’t terrible. Love the large size for a larger dog. Great buy.

Awesome bone for all dogs!
Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1), Size: 1 Count (Pack of 1)
My dogs LOVE this pig ear! It is very lightweight and easy for any dog, from my Great Dane to my Maltipoo, to carry and chew on. It has no odor, yet the dogs were interested immediately after smelling it. The pig ear is perfect for every dog in our household and keeps them busy for hours. Since it is curved, it is easy for them to hold on to and to pick up. We have had this bone for a few weeks, and it has lasted through our little dogs, fosters, and Great Dane! The bone is very durable, and based on the previous bones we’ve gotten from Pet Qwerks, I’m guessing it’s going to last quite a while! I recommend this to anyone wanting a long-lasting bone for their pups, especially those tough chewers!
