Stewartia ovata is commonly known as mountain camellia. This species prefers to grow as an understory tree in shady or partially sunny spots, preferably with sheltered afternoon sun. Stewartia ovata can reach around 15 feet tall and makes for a beautiful landscape plant!
Flowers on Stewartia ovata open around the summer solstice in June. Interior color is typically a hue of purple, however plants with other colors do exist!
Young trees must be protected from deer browse. Trees are approximately 1 foot tall. Random selection.
Cultivation Guidelines:
Light: Shade for most of the day.
Restricted Range: Prefers moist, rich soils. Amend planting area.
Growing Medium: Native soils.
