The Ordinary Spaceman: From Boyhood Dreams to AstronautWhat's it like to travel at more than 850 MPH, riding in a supersonic T 38 twin turbojet engine airplane? What's it like to travel at more than 850 MPH, riding in a supersonic T-38 twin turbojet engine airplane? What happens when the space station toilet breaks? How do astronauts "take out the trash" on a spacewalk, tightly encapsulated in a space suit with just a few layers of fabric and Kevlar between them and the unforgiving vacuum of outer space?

The Ordinary Spaceman puts you in the flight suit of U.S. astronaut Clayton C. Anderson and takes you on the journey of this small-town boy from Nebraska who spent 167 days living and working on the International Space Station, including more than forty hours of space walks. Having applied to NASA fifteen times over fifteen years to become an astronaut before his ultimate selection, Anderson offers a unique perspective on his life as a veteran space flier, one characterized by humility and perseverance.

From the application process to launch aboard the space shuttle Atlantis, from serving as a family escort for the ill-fated Columbia crew in 2003 to his own daily struggles--family separation, competitive battles to win coveted flight assignments, the stress of a highly visible job, and the ever-present risk of having to make the ultimate sacrifice--Anderson shares the full range of his experiences. With a mix of levity and gravitas, Anderson gives an authentic view of the highs and the lows, the triumphs and the tragedies of life as a NASA astronaut.

This jacket is a head-turner.

This is a fantastic jacket for the price. I was very impressed by its appearance. I wore the jacket in Las Vegas and got so many compliments from both men and women. Pair this with a black turtleneck and you will be a superstar.

it caused a fight
Color: Gold, Size: X-Large
I completely mis-read the room.... I got this jacket as a White Elephant gag gift for our Christmas party. I thought it would be funny to see some 50-60 year old conservative dude open this up. There is nothing subtle about this jacket. It's bright. It's flashy. It's bold. The guys fought over it. It was the most stolen gift of the night. When the first guy opened it, the whole party stopped for a minute while he proudly tried it on and everyone took pictures. And each time it was stolen, the same thing happened. The loser moped. The winner boasted. It was not at all the reaction I expected from this group - it was awesome! And to top it off, a couple months later another guy in the group "borrowed" the jacket and wore it for his wedding. His wife - also part of our group - absolutely loved it! He has no plans to return the jacket to any of the previous owners. Don't be surprised if you see a sparkling flash of light in the stands at a Vanderbilt basketball game! Their colors are black/gold, so he's going to make full use of the blazer! Aside from making a great story for all of us, this jacket is very well made. The sequins are firmly attached. The sleeves are the right length, etc. It's comfortable to wear and the sizing feels accurate. I was expecting a "costume" piece, but actually got a quality blazer.

Quite good for costume quality
Color: Gold, Size: Medium
For eighty bucks this definitely isn't bad. It arrived slightly out of shape but after a few days on a good hanger, it all fell into place. I had no issues with fit--the medium wears as expected (6', 38" chest). It's a fun jacket, it's not far off from the product photos, and it certainly makes an impression. While it doesn't feel 'premium' per se, it doesn't feel cheap either. The liner is solid enough that the sequins don't feel too scratchy or restrictive. Definitely a niche item--certainly more of a costume piece than something you'd wear to make a bold impression at a formal event, and while not inexpensive, it delivers for the price and I don't think you could do much better for $80.
