Here is the perfect introductory guide to the history and ideas of the Quakers, one of the world's most fascinating and enigmatic religious groups. Emerging in England in the 1650s as a radical sect challenging the status quo, the Quakers are now best known for their anti-slavery activities, their principled stance against war, and their pioneering work in penal reform. Famous Quakers include Thomas Paine, Walt Whitman, Lucretia Mott, Herbert Hoover, James Dean, Judi Dench, and A.S. Byatt. And while the group still maintains a distinctive worship method to achieve a direct encounter with God, which has been at the heart of the movement since its beginning, Quakers today are highly diverse: some practice a protestant evangelicalism, others are no longer Christian. In this generously illustrated book, Pink Dandelion, the leading expert on Quaker Studies, draws on the latest scholarship to chart the history of the sect and its present-day diversity around the world, exploring its unique approach to worship, belief, theology and language, and ecumenism. It concludes by placing the Quakers in the wider religious picture and predicting its future.About the Series: Oxford's Very Short Introductions offers concise and original introductions to a wide range of subjects--from Islam to Sociology, Politics to Classics, and Literary Theory to History. I really enjoyed this book of short stories
Format: Paperback
I loved this book. It was the first time
I ever read anything by Simone De Beauvoir.
It is difficult but I think the title story
was my favorite, watching the character go
down hill so rapidly and in such detail
showing her growing obession was oddly
relatable, her self hatred towards her body
towards the end of the story
I would not try and presume to state what the
"moral" of the story was... but that is exactly what I am
going to do about now
check it....................
I think that the main Character should have
developed a concept of self outside her marriage
her marriage was her identity and when that fell
apart she had nothing...no sense of self
it was a compelling read a little uncomfortable
but I like being a littel uncomfortable when I read............

Excellent writing, but rather depressing (but perhaps accurate?).

Breath taking novel
Format: Kindle
I am not a fan of both fiction and non-fiction novels, my English is pretty bad as well. yet, here I am, and I'm planning on reading more in the future only because of this book. It's heartbreaking and breathtaking at the same time. Not saying the book is beautiful or any like that, but you will find yourself in a painful place when you read this. A painful feeling which makes you feel like you got stabbed in the heart but all the air in your lung is stuck out, no voice screams out and you can’t do anything with it.

Strong story, Weak book spine
Format: Paperback
The book itself was wonderful. Otherwise the physical structure of the book is weak and the pages began to fall off the spine reading halfway into the book. Recommend the book, and recommend another physical copy of the book.

The inner view of hopeless romantic heartbreak.
Format: Paperback
The stories could be depressing but somehow, they rise above. It's the beautiful soulful clear intelligent writing, I guess.
These stories will ring true for any reader that has lost their favorite significant other.
The middle story is especially amazing to me. It consists of the running inner dialogue of a woman on the edge. Nearly mad she rambles in the cleverest of ways.
Ms. De Beauvoir is [was] a marvelous philosopher, writer, woman.
