After the success of their critically-acclaimed third album Sharpener (HCB 001CD/002LP, 2016), which reached #3 in the jazz charts and #14 in the independent music charts, London's brass juggernauts Hackney Colliery Band blaze back onto the scene with their first collaborative album, ushering in a whole new era for the band. Featuring collaborations with a host of key names in jazz and world music including amongst others the father of Ethio-jazz Mulatu Astatke, British jazz funk legend James Taylor, trombonist Dennis Rollins, UK saxophonist Pete Wareham, and Beninese singer-songwriter and Grammy Award-winner Angélique Kidjo, Hackney Colliery Band have effortlessly transformed their explosive live energy into 11 original recordings that push the groove and form in an accomplished manner. On Collaborations: Volume One, writers Steve Pretty, Olly Blackman, and Luke Christie have between them penned the outfit's most dynamic material to date. "Mm Mm'" (featuring Angélique Kidjo and Roundhouse Choir) merges Beninese grooves with wah pedal trumpet textures, and the rousing call-and-response between Kidjo's soaring vocal and the exhilarating choir adds a richness and depth to the composition. On "Snowfire", innovative Norwegian pianist Bugge Wesseltoft brings a Euro/nu-jazz feel, while Dennis "Funkybone" Rollins adds his trademark virtuoso trombone to the carnival-flavored "Ricochet". There's an energy, respect for tradition, and the exuberance of London in Hackney Colliery Band's work, best exemplified in the downright thrilling James Taylor collaboration "Hypothetical". "Netsanet" featuring Mulatu Astatke is a deep exploration of Mulatu's trademark Ethio-jazz, while "Crushing Lactic", composed by Tom Rogerson (fresh from a recent Brian Eno collaboration) has a frenzied flow, with big horns and driving rhythm section. Elsewhere, Pete Wareham (stalwart of the London jazz revival) lends his free-flowing sax to "What's Gone Before", leading you into a powerful communion of jazz and brass as Mulatu Astatke's "Derashe" takes the listener down a vibrating rhythmic path while accompanied by blasts of horns and Mulatu's trademark vibraphone. Two spoken word compositions ("Why Yellow" and "Climbing Up My Own Life Until I Die") featuring York-born writer and comedian Rob Auton lend an introspective voice.

Good hard use watch.

Review Calibration: 3 stars means it works as advertised, nothing special during use, and no amazing features. Higher stars mean better-than-expected performance and features. This is 5 stars because it is my favorite work/hard-use watch. I have been wearing one for years, and like all Timex watches, it can take a beating. I have to replace it when the band's ears get so damaged that they won't hold the band on. This has more to do with the plastic's lifespan than with a design issue. I am hard on watches. This watch normally lasts ne 7-10 years between replacements.

Typical Ironman quality

This is my fourth Timex Ironman watch. I own many watches, and prefer the Ironman for casual wear and sporting activities as well as swimming and snorkeling. I decided to replace an earlier model with this one rather than pay to change the battery.
The Ironman has changed very little over the years since its introduction in the '80s, with the exception of cosmetic improvememnts and a larger display. I selected the "oversize" model as I was looking for a little more heft to this model. This watch fits the bill, not as chunky as my G-Shock. A pleasant surprise was the weight of the watch. This model is lightweight, another advantage over the G. It's larger than the typical Ironman model, but about the same weight. The band lacks the stiffness of some other Timex and Casio models, and is quite comfortable.
Typical Ironman functions are unchanged, and the ability to "hide" various functions makes operation of the watch more efficient. There are three time zones, useful when traveling, as well as the usual chronograph/timer and alarm functions.
I haven't worn the watch in the pool or ocean yet, but if experience is any guide, I expect no problems. I've never had an Ironman leak, whether during water sports or snorkeling.
These are great watches for the money. I prefer 200 meter water resistance for this type of watch, but Timex has yet to build an Ironman 200m that doesn't overwhelm my wrist in weight and size. I'm not a big guy, and they are simply too large for my wrist.
Looking forward to years of service with this watch. Definitely a good timepiece for the price.

Will not be disappointed

Keeping in mind that I received this item yesterday (2/24/16), I absolutely love this watch. The reason I have so much confidence with this watch is because I've owned one other Timex similar to this one, and it served me extremely well and is still able to do so. First off, this watch is certainly aesthetically pleasing. The blue color around the face of the watch and outline in the band, goes really well with the black frame. It's just an overall nice looking watch. More importantly, the quality seems great. As I mentioned, I've owned a Timex expedition, which I've had for more than 2 years, and it's still working perfectly fine. The watch seems like it's put together very well and there's no loose or flimsy parts. One complaint that many people seem to have with Timex is the quality of their band. Unfortunately I'd have to agree, since the band on my other Timex that's still working like the first day I got it, cracked and broke and is only being held together by the nylon fabric on the other side of the band. You're not going to have that problem with this watch. It's a full nylon band with Velcro adjustment, for precise fitting. it feels extremely comfortable and you won't need to worry about the band cracking (although I'm sure there will be certain defects in a mass produced bunch). I will use this watch for work and running, and rarely plan on taking it off. Just to give you an idea, I also have a garmin gps watch that I love and obviously has more functions than this watch. However, the second I received this watch, I slapped it on and put my garmin to the side. This watch also looks amazing when you wear it. I'll update this feedback as needed, but I'm confident this watch will serve me for years to come, just as my other one has.

Greatest watch I've ever had, but changing batteries is near impossible

This is the 3rd time I've bought this watch. Same brand, same or very similar model. It has a chronometer, timer, alarm, and of course the clock. It has something I think is for "occasions" but I don't know what it does and don't really care about it. The watch is durable. It uses battery power efficiently. The indiglo is second to none. I just really really like this watch.
Having said all that, if you want to change the batteries, good luck, you'll need it. Once you manage to get the backing off of it and open it up (which is a little tricky in itself), it's like a comedy routine where you see some stooge open an electrical device and a buncha parts and springs go flying everywhere. And of course, they are so tiny, you'll never find them once they fly out. That was the exact scenario I found myself in the last time I tried to change the battery. It made me so mad I actually bought another brand of watch that I thoroughly researched. But that watch DIDN'T use battery power efficiently, and it had a host of other minor problems that added up to the conclusion that it was not nearly as great as this Timex. So, for the 3rd time, I found myself buying this Timex watch.
So it's a wonderful watch in every way except longevity because changing the batteries has historically been a nightmare for me.
