Chosen a Best Children's Book of the Year by the Bank Street Center

Voted a Best Book of the Year by School Library Journal and Kirkus Reviews

A biography for younger readers about one of the most influential activists of our time, who was an early advocate for African Americans and for gay rights.

"Bayard had an unshakable optimism, nerves of steel, and, most importantly, a faith that if the cause is just and people are organized, nothing can stand in our way."--President Barack Obama

"Bayard Rustin was one of the great organizers and activists of the Civil Rights Movement. Without his skill and vision, the historic impact of the March on Washington might not have been possible. I am glad this biography will make young people aware of his life and his incredible contribution to American history.--Congressman John Lewis

"'We need, in every community, a group of angelic troublemakers, ' declared Bayard Rustin in the late 1940s. A proponent of nonviolent resistance and a stalwart figure in the civil rights movement, Rustin organized a profound and peaceful milestone in American history--the 1963 March on Washington. . . . Troublemaker for Justice describes not only how Rustin orchestrated the March on Washington in two months but also how he stood up for his Quaker principles throughout his life. The three authors, Jacqueline Houtman, Walter Naegle and Michael G. Long, show the difficulties Rustin faced as a gay black man in 20th-century America, and that he shouldered them with strength, intelligence, and a quest for peace and justice."--Abby Nolan, The Washington Post

"An excellent biography that belongs in every young adult library. Readers will find Rustin's story captivating; his story could encourage young people to fight for change."--Michelle Kornberger, Library Journal, *Starred Review

"In today's political landscape, this volume is a lesson in the courage to live according to one's truth and the dedication it takes to create a better world."--Kirkus Reviews, *Starred Review

"A long-overdue introduction to a fascinating, influential change maker."--Publishers Weekly, *Starred Review

"This biography is an indispensable addition to the literature of both civil and gay rights."--Michael Cart, Booklist, *Starred review

Bayard Rustin was a major figure in the Civil Rights movement. He was arrested on a bus 13 years before Rosa Parks and he participated in integrated bus rides throughout the South 14 years before the Freedom Riders. He was a mentor to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., teaching him the techniques and philosophy of Gandhian nonviolent direct action. He organized the March on Washington in 1963, one of the most impactful mobilizations in American history.

Despite these contributions, few Americans recognize his name, and he is absent from most history books, in large part because he was gay. This biography traces Rustin's life, from his childhood and his first arrest in high school for sitting in the "whites only" section of a theater, through a lifetime of nonviolent activism.

"Authors Jacqueline Houtman, Walter Naegle, and Michael G. Long provide middle and high school students with a biography of Rustin that illustrates how the personal is political. Young readers will take away valuable lessons about identity, civics, and 20th-century history."--Rethinking Schools

This coffee mug warmer works great and keeps my coffee at the perfect temperature without overheating. Love the choice in temperatures feature. It’s simple to use, heats quickly, and fits my mugs well. A great upgrade for enjoying hot coffee longer at my work desk.

THE ABSOLUTE BEST MUG WARMER! WORKS PERFECTLY!
Color: Black
This is the best mug warmer I've ever had! It's sleek, keeps drink hot or even warm if that's what you prefer. I bought two, my niece liked mine so much she got one, and I'm getting one for my guest who comes to my house.

YEOSEN 3 Temperature Mug Warmer
Color: Black
Wow! There really are warmer mug warmers than lukewarm! This is one of them. Who wants lukewarm coffee? The YEOSEN 3 Temperature Mug Warmer on the MEDIUM temperature setting keeps my coffee HOT enough. Not lukewarm, or barely warm (even at the bottom of the cup). In fact, I use the lower temp. settings, while the level of liquid goes down. The lowest temperature is HOT enough ...not lukewarm. It's not burning, but HOT. I bought it because the reviews said it kept the coffee much warmer than lukewarm. And it does. The point is, when I walk away from my desk for 15 minutes, the temperature of my coffee is still satisfyingly hot. After all, what is lukewarm? It's a few degrees above normal body temperature! 137 is hotter than that! The unit automatically shuts off (the Off-On button is on the bottom of the unit positioned under the hot plate and the weight of the cup pushes the button to turn it on), when you pick up the cup it shuts off. I don't like the auto shut off button on the bottom of the unit. It shuts off and on every time you take a drink. Lift the cup up and it shuts off, set it back down and it turns back on. Wish you could shut that feature off. A piece of tape? but unplugging it from the wall is inconvenient. Maybe, because it's so much warmer than lukewarm, it needs some kind of safety feature. But, all in all, I would definitely buy another one.

BEST mug warmer
Color: Black
This is the best of the many mug warmers available online. It has 3 temperatures. I use the highest - 167 degrees. I like my coffee HOT. With this warmer I don’t have to return to the microwave as often to reheat my coffee. It is very easy to use- takes large mugs as well as regular sized cups. I have looked everywhere for a “flat bottomed” mug . All the mugs I have found have a rim on the bottom which prevents complete contact with the warmer. However the warmer works with the “bottom rimed “ mugs. I use my warmer for the end table by my recliner. I am considering purchasing a second warmer for my desktop. I definitely recommend this as the BEST mug warmer. I have been using it many hours daily for over a month as I am retired. It works fine. I did just purchase a second one. It came the day after I ordered it. Now I can enjoy a hot beverage by my recliner or on my desktop. I purchased a silicone cover/lid for my mug. This really keeps my beverage hot. However when you remove the lid the condensation on the underside of the lid drips. I keep a paper towel/napkin close by to catch the condensation.

Warming Up to My New Mug Warmer
Color: Black
I keep mine next to my computer monitor so I always have that quick caffeine jolt nearby. The three temperature settings are convenient and the LED readouts ensure your brew is as hot as you want it to be. Not sure about reviews saying this warmer makes drinks lukewarm because it doesn't. In fact, it can be used to reheat drinks in just a few minutes. I also like that it's a 120v plug-in and it's not the weak, slow, and temperamental USB powered one. One tip: The on-off switch is on the underside of the warmer. It must be depressed for it to power on. If the red LED doesn't indicate the temperature, then the warmer is not on (or the button is broken). You don't have to turn the unit over either to press the power button, just press down on your mug until the temperature LED turns on. The other hint is that this warmer can get very hot very quickly. While the edges stay cool to the touch, never touch the outlined hotplate area or you might get burned. Wait for it too cool down or use a pair of oven mitts---it's that hot.
