Germans have made it a monument of their culture, and musicology considers it one of the cornerstones of its studies. However, to define this volume as "just" a tool for lovers of Romances for voice and piano is rather limiting. It is also, and above all, an organic collection of German and European poetry by some of the greatest authors: Goethe, Schiller, Schlegel, Schober, but also, and perhaps most importantly, by lesser-known names such as Pichler, Collin, Reissig. And then again Aeschylus, Anacreon; and Metastasio, Goldoni, Petrarch, who contribute, in their original Italian versions, to form the corpus of 600 Lieder, presented here in its entirety, with original text on the facing page, edited by one of our most recognized translators and scholars of German poetry: Olimpio Cescatti.
