Learn Five Essential Zip Techniques for Professional Finishes

From dresses to trousers to jackets, a beautifully inserted zip can transform your garment. In this practical, hands-on workshop, you’ll learn how to sew the five most useful zip applications — and how to choose the right seam allowance and finishing method for each one.

What You’ll Learn

You’ll create a set of labelled samples covering every key technique:

  • Concealed (Invisible) Zip with Facing – smooth, invisible finish with perfectly aligned seams

  • Trouser Fly Zip – Two Methods – understand the construction sequence and when to use each approach

  • Exposed Zip – a feature detail perfect for dresses, tops, and sporty or modern garments

  • Traditional Lapped Zip – the classic finish often used in skirts and trousers

  • How to Finish a Zip with a Lining – clean, professional inside finishes for dresses, skirts, and jackets

You’ll also learn how to allow the correct seam allowance for each type of zip, which is often where confusion happens.

Ideal For

  • Beginners ready to feel more confident inserting zips

  • Intermediate sewists wanting reliable, repeatable techniques

  • Anyone who struggles with fly zips or invisible zips

  • Students building technical samples

You’ll Leave With

  • A set of clearly labelled zip samples to refer back to

  • Knowledge of different zip types and where to use them

  • Confidence in choosing the right technique and seam allowance

  • Tips for accuracy, alignment, pressing, and neat finishing

Great quality wire for any automotive or 12 volt wiring
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
This GS Power 16 gauge wire is excellent quality for any automotive wiring project. The copper is true OFC pure copper, not copper clad aluminum. It’s flexible, easy to route, and holds up well without the insulation feeling cheap or brittle. I have used it for automotive accessory wiring and some 12V equipment projects and it handled everything perfectly. The wire pulls cleanly, solders well, and the insulation thickness gives it a durable feel without being overly bulky. If you need dependable wire for automotive, marine, RV, audio, or general electrical projects, this is a great buy. I would absolutely purchase it again.

Not the sorry copper coated aluminum.
Size: 16 AWG-100 ft
The wire is 16 gauge plenty big for my system. Heck, the wires supplied with my stereo, copomonet speakers, and amplifiers are about 20 or 24 gauge. I'm quite sure the wire will be more than suffeceint. I, m installing a mono sub amplifier a four-way amplifier to the sub amp outputs and the front of lines of the stereo. I'm gonna be pushing 20 speakers all except the sub woofer only pushing 100 watts a channel and the sub will push 150 watts. That makes 21 altogether. Not much just good clean sound. I've been working on the project going on 5 years now. Been bargain hunting, besides the work I've only got about $650 in the project. Can't wait to get it completed here around the end of July. Hopefully, it will sound great didn't want to pay anyone. Seen too many "professional" jobs that were subpar. I've seen some nightmares. Figured if l did the job then who could I blame at least I can only blame myself and didn't pay $1,000 for it. 😁🤔
