Royal Royalite Model Age Guide

The Royal Royalite and its sublabelings out started life in 1951 as the Halberg Junior (AKA "Traveler" & "Traveller"), designed and manufactured in Holland. This design sold fairly well for a few years, but by 1954 Halberg's board realized that the company would not survive and decided to sell the design and factory to Royal, who needed a small and compact machine in their lineup to compete against machines like the Smith-Corona Skyriter. The sale was completed quickly and Royal began ramping up production of the Halberg design as the Royal Royalite and Eldorado. By 1957, several new shell designs and models were launched, all of which were still internally the original Halberg mechanical design, and production continued robustly until 1969, when Royal purchased the Adler/Triumph corporation and moved production of the Adler Tippa S portable to the factory in Holland, retiring the Halberg-based designs.

Royal did produce thousands of the Royalite style typewriters for sale in the US market, and they are plentiful today. How many were made is a bit of a mystery, as Royal standardized the factory's serial numbering to match the Royal A-Frame portable production, and so it is quite likely that the number of machines produced each year is the sum of *all* Royal portables made in that year, not just the Royalite-types produced in Holland. Still, the Royalite and its kin are popular with typists and collectors today, and easily found fairly inexpensively.

Thus, I am pleased to have been able to assemble this Royalite Repair Bible, and hope that is instructive to you in the care, use and maintenance of your portable typewriter.

Happy Typing!

Cheaply made , waste of money
Cheap !! Lousy product did not fling at all. Lost the ball almost immediately since it went back instead of front. Do not recommend

So-so
Do not like this as much as previous one that broke after years. This one is cheap and sometimes the ball doesn't flip out well and doesn't pick up balls on the ground as easy but it does the job.

Not worth it
Very colorful and my poodle liked the ball. It didn’t last 1 week. Horrible quality and not worth the money. My dog destroyed ball as soon as I turned my back. Would return it if it was in a returnable condition
