With references to past works as Nic reflects on the last decade and his past creations, the spirit of experimentation and the passion for self-expression are at the core of this new collection. The Next Chapter references Nic’s evolving creative journey with his progressive techniques, unexplored themes and sentiments yet to be unravelled and miniaturised.

The title, “Be Brave”, enthuses us to follow our path and experience our personal journey to the fullest and it is representative that the people around us help develop, guide and collaboratively build our journeys. The piece serves as a reminder that our life’s journey is an ever-evolving, multi faceted exploration of the world and ourselves. Whether it's capturing the essence of a fleeting moment, reimagining historical scenes, or interpreting fictional scenes, Nic’s possesses a unique ability to communicate subtlety.

The eighth piece in the edition in Manhattan, New York. Nic’s wife, Nell bought him a surprise 4 day city break to New York. He has great memories of walking through the snow in Central Park, the vibrancy of Times Square and the constant noise of cabs, sirens and people. “I think it was about four or five years ago with my two boys and my wife and we just walked for miles and miles the length of Manhattan all around and it is a magical place”.

Through the vibrant colours of the line work, intricate details, and imaginative routes, Nic captures the essence of wanderlust and self-discovery. A familiar story, just with…..less.

So, as other reviewers make clear, this is very similar to Pack Darling and The Beta. It’s much closer aligned with The Beta, in plot and maybe more like Pack Darling with characters. That being said, I don’t hate this…..but it wasn’t great either. It’s both books mentioned but just….less. Less angst, less emotion, less feeling. The plot feels very half fleshed out, and the “bad guy” feels underwhelming. I didn’t really feel any real emotions from and of the male leads, except maybe Oliver. The others fell sorta flat for me. And Mika makes herself out to be this big bad ass straight outta training and then we never see it from here again with the one fitting room incident as the exception. SPOILER: The whole, “Oh, I’m actually probably an Omega, but I don’t wanna be but I do actually wanna be but no one can ever know my secret that I do nothing to hide “ thing fell so flat. She never commutes to believing she was secretly an omega, but also mentions her “secret” a lot. It just felt so manufactured. I’m intrigued enough to read part 2 and see how the author closes everything out, but this is not one I’ll recommend or ever come back to.
