Inspired by an image from a Jacques Cousteau television programme, ‘Weeee!’ centres the concept that people are more than their bodies – their thoughts, memories and their histories make them bigger than themselves. Billy believes “that’s the way to be if you’re going to be happy, you have to be big.”

The fish embodies this concept with its small body trailing a dazzling and vibrant multicoloured tail, reflecting the belief that identity transcends the physical form. Billy says, "The tail seems to be the story, and the wee fish is doing the hard work, dragging it around saying ‘wheeeee!’.”

Created in an expressive colour palette and with Connolly’s signature flowing linework, this full-of-life drawing sparks childlike wonder in anyone who sees it.
