Historical Context and Positioning in the Range

The A Zildjian series embodies the brand's "classic" sound: a bright, versatile timbre designed to fit naturally into many styles. This identity has been built over decades and remains a reference for drummers seeking a ride cymbal that is both familiar, effective, and immediately usable in rehearsal as well as on stage.

As part of a redesigned A range, the stated goal is to recapture the essence of the original sound while adjusting shapes and weights to achieve a more contemporary balance. This evolution responds to the growing demand for larger and often lighter models, aligning with modern musical trends, while retaining the brightness and versatility that have made the series renowned.

Who This Drum/Instrument Is For

This 22 in ride cymbal is especially aimed at intermediate to advanced drummers who want a reliable, clear ride that can assert itself effortlessly. Its "ping" profile and medium heavy thickness make it an excellent choice for contexts where clarity of the ride pattern is paramount: rock, pop, funk, variety, fusion, and more broadly all amplified playing situations where a clear definition is expected above a dense band.

For studio use, it also works very well when looking for a ride that "sits" quickly: obvious articulation, controlled wash, and brightness that helps it stand out in the spectrum without overloading the low-mids.

As a ping category ride, this model emphasizes stick definition: each hit is distinct, with effective separation between the attack and the body of the note. The medium heavy thickness supports projection and sustain, providing a sense of stability under the right hand, particularly appreciated on fast tempos or very steady grooves.

The mention of a redesigned A range highlights a desire to optimize overall balance (weight, shape, and response) to remain consistent with current uses, notably the interest in larger diameters. At 22 in, you benefit from a broader foundation and a fuller presence, while maintaining clear definition thanks to the "ping" orientation.

Sound Characteristics

The B20 alloy is at the heart of this ride's musicality: it promotes a response rich in harmonics, with a natural complexity that remains usable at various striking intensities. In a bright aesthetic, it delivers a luminous high end and a crisp attack, useful for cutting through a live mix without forcing dynamics.

The medium heavy thickness directly influences behavior: more projection, a controlled sense of rigidity, and generally less wash than a thinner ride. The result is a cymbal that maintains excellent clarity on the pattern, even when overall volume increases. The traditional finish helps preserve a musical balance by avoiding an overly "metallic" brightness: it stays in a clear register but with an organic playing texture.

Finally, the " ping " character emphasizes definition: ideal for drummers who want the ride to serve as a rhythmic backbone, with consistent rebound and a homogeneous sound across the entire playing surface.

Features

  • Bright and iconic sound: the A Zildjian signature, heard on countless recordings, with a clear presence in the mix.
  • "Ping" definition: precise and readable attack, ideal for keeping time with a regular and articulated pattern.
  • Medium heavy thickness: balance between power, control, and projection, suitable for sustained playing situations.
  • B20 alloy: rich dynamic response, with a harmonic palette typical of high-end cymbals.

On the right track
Format: Paperback
This book is a good introduction about how to use story-telling techniques in PowerPoint presentations. There are some good ideas here that you won't find in technical manuals. If you don't know film techniques these will be eye-opening. But the book could have been much stronger if it were to push these concepts to the next level. I saw a PowerPoint presentation with Andy Goodman, who teaches more or less the same thing, and his presentation nailed these concepts more cleanly than this book does. But again, this book is definitely worth checking out if you haven't studied storytelling before.

An Essential
Format: Paperback
I've created PowerPoints for executives in major corporations and national non-profits for years now, and this is one of the first books I suggest anyone who needs to create their own PowerPoint look to. Beyond Bullet points is accessable enough that the novice PowerPoint user can understand what's going on and use the lessons in his or her next presentation; it's also detailed and challenging enough that even an old salt like me can find things to learn and do. Don't be another person who stands on stage reading their PowerPoint, and don't let reading your slides distract the audience from your presentation; follow the suggestions in this book and wow your audience.

Essential reading for PowerPoint presenters.
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Cliff shows details how to improve our PowerPoint presentations. He gives concrete and simple steps to transform a message into a targeted presentation. All of us have suffered from presenters who went over their allotted time because they had vital information to give us, yet we still didn't know their main point. Many have seen slide decks burdened with dozens of bullet points. Did the volume of points yield more clarity or did they dull our ability to focus on the message? Probably not. Read Cliff's book. Follow his method and you'll be a more effective presenter.

Useful with some scientific corroboration
Format: Paperback
Worth it as a primer to slide content and how it inter-relates to the delivery when giving a presentation. Very slightly laboured, like most TV documentaries nowadays - you feel they could move a bit faster (...yeah we got it the first time).
