She was an Irish immigrant cook. Between 1900 and 1907, she infected 22 New Yorkers with typhoid fever through her puddings and cakes; one of them died. Tracked down through epidemiological detective work, she was finally apprehended as she hid behind a barricade of trashcans. To protect the public's health, authorities isolated her on Manhattan’s North Brother Island, where she died some 30 years later.
This book tells the remarkable story of Mary Mallon—the real Typhoid Mary. Combining social history with biography, historian Judith Leavitt re-creates early 20th-century New York City, a world of strict class divisions and prejudice against immigrants and women. Leavitt engages the reader with the excitement of the early days of microbiology and brings to life the conflicting perspectives of journalists, public health officials, the law, and Mary Mallon herself.
Leavitt’s readable account illuminates dilemmas that continue to haunt us in the age of COVID-19. To what degree are we willing to sacrifice individual liberty to protect the public's health? Another excellent Anker product

I always start my peripheral search with Anker. As all my Anker equipment are, it’s solid, compact and works as promised. If I get really picky, when I have my Air Pods charging, the band of my Apple Watch takes some extra effort to tuck in above it (a little more height would be appreciated, although it would work against its compactness). That’s a really minor gripe.
I love that the magnet is strong and that the orientation can be changed from landscape to portrait without removing it from the mount. It will fit into a suitcase easily and the AC adapter is small. I couldn’t be happier with it!

Actual, honest-to-goodness fast charging

After unsuccessfully buying two different so-called "fast" chargers that completely lied about their charging ability, specifically for the Apple watch, I finally bought this one. What a world of difference! I have an Apple watch ultra, which is fantastic on battery life, and I appreciate that I can actually wear it while I sleep. I have to charge it about every day and a half, which means that sometimes I need to top it up while I'm at work. (Alternatively, I could be a slave about charging it every day at home, but part of the reason I switched to the Ultra is to not have to be that obsessive about charging.)
Anyway, I needed a good charger at work. I ordered one that claimed to be 5W watch charging, and it blatantly lied. It took over an hour to get about 20% of a charge. I ordered another, similar results. This one is night and day different. My watch will fully charge at the posted speeds Apple boasts about with fast chargers. If it's running a little low during the day, I can pop it on the charger for 20-30 minutes and have enough juice to last through my hour+ swim workout, no problem.
The phone charger is fast, too, and if you use a magsafe case, it has a very firm hold. Without a magsafe case, your phone may drop off the charger (mine did), which is frustrating. Since I have another magsafe charger at home, I just bought a new case (they're cheap) and now I'm super happy with this.
The contact charger on the back will work to charge your phone (or a second phone) or earbuds, too.
Very happy with this purchase. It's a bit pricier than the cheapo other brands, but it actually freaking works and charges quickly. It's worth the money.

Secure Mount With Premium Feel
This phone mount feels incredibly sturdy once installed. No shaking or movement while driving, even on rough roads. The design looks clean and factory installed instead of bulky like a lot of other mounts. It holds the phone securely and keeps it easy to access for navigation.
