陳嘉新目前是陽明交通大學科技與社會研究所教授，但他曾經是親手約束病人的精神科醫師，在本書中他寫下自己從醫學生成為精神科醫師的歷程。
當住院醫師第一天就受到震撼教育，門診病人多到沒時間吃午飯、值班當天只能睡一小時；他的手指頭差點被病人咬下來，咬他手指的不是窮兇惡極的反社會人格者，而是混亂失神的年老婦人；遇見帶著硫酸來掛急診的被害妄想症患者，他只能假裝鎮定，努力安撫與勸退患者，並且稍微把自己的座位調整得離門近一點……
【最懂得絕望受苦的職人書寫】
對一般人而言，精神科常令人感覺神祕甚至恐怖。精神科醫生這份工作，必須與許多特殊且脆弱的生命接觸，也承受隨時可能失去他們的衝擊與感傷。「他們（患者）的死去也意味著我某部分努力的死去。誰能知道這份工作就是要這樣不斷且不時地面對自己的死去？然後我們還要扛著這些死亡，繼續活下去，服務其他人。」
【治療病人同時自我養成】
陳嘉新從人文關懷的角度揉合第一手的醫療經驗，以時而幽默時而沉思的筆調記錄與病人互動的過程，那些衝擊他個人情緒的經驗，也形塑自己的世界觀與人生觀。他感謝他照顧過的病人：「沒有他們，我無法學習成為更好的醫生。」本書令人瞭解我們與精神病患的距離，是如此似遠猶近。

Comfy but wear quickly

These are perfect for every-day wear and i find them super comfortable. Mine are starting to tear and fall apart, which is more quickly than my other underwear, but I think its worth it for the price and comfortableness. I'll just replace them or repair them :)
