About This Listing
This listing is for an original watercolor illustration on cold-pressed Arches watercolor paper paired with a matching dusty blue mat (not shown). The illustration has been attached to the mat using archival methods (mulberry paper hinges affixed with wheat starch hinging paste) and the full piece (including the mat) measures approximately 9x12 inches. The portion of the painting shown in frame inside the mat is roughly 6x8 inches. The piece can be unmounted from the mat with a gentle application of water (using a wet cloth) to the hinges on the back to reactivate the hinging paste. Signed and labelled by the artist in pencil in the bottom margin. This is an unframed original painting, not a print. It is an illustration for Bryana's 100 Word Story "The Ducks" and will be shipped with an accompanying printed version of the story. (You can read the full micro-fiction story in the listing photos and below. It also appears in the illustrated zine "The Man Who Could Not Die & Other Stories.")

THE DUCKS
Everything wants to eat a duck. Hawk and heron. A duck is sitting there minding her business but can't catch a break. Falcon. Fox. Turtles take them by the foot. A duck can look like a laughing matter, so wobbly of walk and fat in front. Pike pluck them right out of the ripples. Point being: let a duck have a little fun. No planning ahead, no proving themselves. Let a duck laze on the porch until too late, play dominoes all night, have too many pancakes. Each time they tune up the banjo, they know: maybe the last time.

Seems durable - but the scent is not the best

I don't know if I'd call the scent of this "bacon," more like rubber with a hint of bacon. It's very strong. I gave my dog one of the balls & put one in a cabinet where I keep his treats & a few other unrelated odds & ends. I now hold my breath when I open that cabinet b/c good lord, the smell. I'm tempted to just give that one to the dog too, just because it'll air out eventually & then everything else in that cabinet won't smell bad. My dog feels so-so about it. He'll briefly chase after it & chew on it, but loses interest in it pretty fast. My rather hyperactive cat also plays with it from time to time, as he seems to have more interest in most dog toys than the dog these days, so there's that. (Then again, he thinks a wide variety of random items around the house are loads of fun to toss about, so it's possible his opinion is to be taken with a grain of salt. Between the brief periods of one of these balls being chewed on & clawed at, it's stayed completely intact. I think if you have a dog who simply likes to play fetch or chew on rubber balls in general, this one would stand up to the task. But if you're expecting it to be greeted with the enthusiasm as a bacon grease covered ball might be - I'd adjust your expectations.
