With the programme of their latest recording, Johannes Martin Kranzle and his pianist Hilko Dumno shed light on common features and differences between Lied cycles of the Christian Central European and Jewish East European traditions. Always at the center of focus are faith and the peoples' way of life, together with the question of human finiteness inevitably bound with these subjects. Thus the Twelve Yiddish Lieder by the largely unknown composer Richard Rudolf Klein meet Gustav Mahler's Lieder from Youth's Magic Horn, in which Jewish rhythms and melodies repeatedly shine forth. Also included is Jewish song inspired lieder by Frank Martin and Maurice Ravel. German baritone Johannes martin Kranzle has made for himself an exceptional international career. He spent many years as a member of the Frankfurt Opera. Most recently, he debuted at the Bayreuth Festival as Beckmesser in Wagner's Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg in 2017.
