This listing is for an original miniature paper theatre scene (also called a "tunnel book") painted with professional-grade watercolors on 100% cotton Arches watercolor paper and assembled using archival-quality glue in an accordion-folded base made of Fabriano drawing paper. The scene can be compressed or expanded through manipulation of the accordion folds. This scene was cut out entirely by hand and the edges of each component were afterwards painstakingly finished with dark paint. The scene is labeled and signed by the artist on the back and comes in a hand-painted carrying box made out of hot-pressed Arches watercolor paper. This is not a print, but a one-of-a-kind original painted papercraft creation. It measures approximately 4.6x5.6 inches, and the carrying box is slightly larger.

"In our time, values that once felt too elementary to make a hullabaloo about seem suddenly to be in dire need of a spirited defense. Similarly, coarse, mean-spirited attitudes that were once dismissed as cringe and fringe are being lauded in high places. This tunnel book is one more tiny protest from me. I mean it to be a celebration of certain things I see being devalued by our leadership but that I personally still very much believe in: generosity in bleak locales, a spirit of welcome towards wanderers from far-away places, an ethic rooted in sharing rather than in hoarding, a determination to tackle problems collaboratively, and an avoidance of competitive bluster towards neighbors and allies. It was with all this on my mind that I set about to design a tunnel book that would carry some of the feelings pressing on me these days."
