Classics is a 1995 compilation album by Richard D. James, better known as Aphex Twin, released by R&S Records. It gathers material from James’s early years, including tracks from his Analogue Bubblebath, Digeridoo, and Xylem Tube EPs, along with remixes of Mescalinum United’s “We Have Arrived.” Issued without James’s creative input, the collection was released by R&S in the wake of his rising fame on Warp Records, and James later criticized it as a label cash-in rather than an authorized retrospective.

The compilation captures the raw beginnings of James’s sound during the early 1990s techno and acid house era. Pieces like “Digeridoo,” written to exhaust rave audiences, pushed tempos and textures into darker, more aggressive territory and hinted at the drum-and-bass movement to come. Other tracks from his Analogue Bubblebath series display the melodic and rhythmic experimentation that would define his later work.

Although James disowned the release, Classics remains a key document of his formative years—tracing his transition from underground EPs to the boundary-breaking electronic artist who would reshape the landscape of experimental and dance music throughout the decade.
