Winemaker Notes

94/100 rating from James Suckling, who noted its layered, fresh texture with baked apple, lemon zest, and chalky mineral flavors, complemented by hints of oak and a crisp finish.

The 2020 Rose & Arrow Estate vintage is the result of treasured and measured bravery. Out of nature’s challenges and our determined faith in rooted resilience, our bravery led us to an unexpected reward. In the glass, these wines exhibit an astounding expression of the tiny pieces of terroir that shine with balance, texture, and nuance. We consider them to be rare jewels spared simply for our pleasure.

The Place: The site, sitting at an elevation of 300-450 feet,  gradually slopes westward and south. Positioned at the throat of the Van Duzer corridor, ample ventilation is provided to the vines throughout the growing season.  Spots of Columbia River Basalt peak through the shallow to medium top soil laid over sedimentary deposits.

The Palate: In the glass, this Chardonnay is frisky with flavors like lemon zest and granny smith apple but with a very balanced level of acidity.  A very modern chardonnay, it carries a clear lineage back  to its fractured basalt terroir, a rocky soil to make complex and individualistic wines, like this one.

About Winery

Rose & Arrow Estate, founded in 2016 by Mark Tarlov and Burgundian winemaker Louis-Michel Liger-Belair, is a boutique winery in Oregon’s Willamette Valley that focuses on crafting Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from nine micro-plots of vineyards planted on ancient volcanic rock. Their philosophy centers on expressing the tension and character of each site, believing that great wines emerge from the interplay of opposites—such as acidity and sweetness or simplicity and complexity. By emphasizing geological precision and terroir-driven winemaking, Rose & Arrow produces elegant, single-origin wines that reflect the unique personality of each vineyard plot.

My dog's obsession
Color: Octopus Yellow & Green
My dog has been obsessed with these since he was a puppy. I started buying them in 6 packs. He chews is after each meal like dental floss and it's always soggy and gross. I keep an eye on the legs and throw it away when he begins to chew through them. One lasts him a couple months (80 pound Lab).

Great for treats
Color: Octopus Purple & Blue
We purchased this to keep our dog busy and engaged. He seems to enjoy it. We placed 1 or 2 treats in the tentacles and then loosely tie them. He can not untie them but can still manage to get the treats out. It amuses him for 10-12 minutes which is great. Only downside I can see is that the octopus is going to get grungy soon because of the treats and the treats and the constant licking to remove them. Not sure how it will washup but we will try. Very soft and decent squeaky sound.

Durable
My dog loves it. She takes it to  bed every night. It is sturdy, doesn’t seem like it will rip easily.  Why did you pick this product vs others?: Trying to replace a raccoon she got 4 year’s ago.  Squeak: Only squeaks when I squeeze it.

As with all stuffed toys, supervision is needed.
I have a 6 month old standard size Golden Doodle who has gone through several raccoon toys. He loves their tails and to make them squeak. He knows the word raccoon, so when the last one “died”, I had to get another. This one is well made and has a magnificent tail. It did not take long, however, for Marvin to amputate two of the raccoon’s feet and pull the stuffing out. Luckily, I was able to get it from him before he swallowed any, and was able to sew up the injuries and return it to him for another round of play. I do not expect more from a stuffed toy, but I do not leave my dog alone with one and accept that supervision is always necessary. This raccoon is charming and when it “dies” I will probably buy it again. Five stars!
