The call of sea gulls lulled above as white clouds took over the electric blue sky. My Jeep smelled of salt and sea and smelly wet rocks and shells that my son and I spent hours collecting. I didn't mind. It's earthy and no, I was not giving up the treasures we found. Just as everywhere we go...I seek the road less traveled. I seek the paths few souls dare to roam. The polar opposite of city life and traffic and loud noises. Here we were the only one on the road, a road so few traveled on sand brushed over the top in smooth tire-trackless droves. It was so silent I could hear the dried grasses blow in the warm breeze. And there in the distance she stood. A shack...a little wooden structure...a place called home. A place I imagine free of expectations, worry, stress and opinions of the outside world. A place, if I lived in, would be full of open windows, flowers, music and art and a million touches of nature. A place where the mind can get back to that feeling of freedom in childhood. To live with less, the essentials, to free up time to explore the beauty of nature all around.
