AMETHYST: is a meditative and calming stone which works in the emotional, spiritual, and physical planes to promote calm, balance, and peace. It is also used to eliminate impatience. Amethyst is used as beneficial when dealing with legal problems and money issues, which can lead to prosperity and abundance, though it is not the best known prosperity stone. Emotionally, amethyst is used in crystal healing to help heal personal losses and grief, bringing one gently past. Amethyst has a gently sedative energy that ca promote peacefulness, happiness, and contentment. It also is said to bring emotional stability and inner strength. This stability and strength not only helps one hold firm in one's life, but it can enhance flexibility and cooperation. To be flexible at need is a sure sign of strength. Amethyst is very well known -- as from the ancients -- as a sobriety stone. It has been used for millenia to prevent drunkenness, and is used to assist in getting rid of addictions to alcohol, drugs, smoking, etc, and destructive compulsive behaviors of all kinds.

ROSE QUARTZ: Rose quartz is often called the "Love Stone." It's energetic hallmark is that of unconditional love that opens the heart chakra. This makes rose quartz a stone for every type of love: self-love, family, platonic, romantic, and unconditional. As a variety of quartz, rose quartz has high energy, and this strong energy can enhance love in virtually any situation. This stone of unconditional love that opens the heart chakra to all forms of love: self-love, family love, platonic love, and romantic love. The high energy of quartz gives rose quartz the property of enhancing love in virtually any situation. Bringing love in to life and daily situations not only brings inner warmth, but it also lowers stress and soothes those around it. Rose quartz is a very happy and loving stone. Rose quartz is used to raise self-esteem and a strong sense of self-worth. Its loving energies teach us to apply this love to ourselves and thereby find ourselves more worthy.

***WHAT IS A MALA***

Mala beads date back thousands of years. Traditionally Mala Beads are made up of 108 beads and have been used in prayer and meditation, but don't be intimidated by that. Anyone can wear Mala Beads whether you meditate or not. Many people are drawn to them for the believed healing properties of the gemstones used. Others are drawn to them because they are just beautiful pieces of jewelry.

You can wear them around your wrist, your neck, hang them at your altar, or meditate on them.

***WHY 108***

There are many different explanations for why 108 is a sacred number. Some say the number 108 represents one thing, nothing, and everything all at the same time. 1=one, 0= none, 8= infinity or all. Another is that It has been said that there are 108 energy lines connecting the heart, with one of them being directly linked to self actualization. Also 108 is a sacred number.

***HOW TO USE YOUR MALA***

If you choose to meditate on your mala, you will most likely use a mantra. A mantra is a word, sound, or phrase repeated to aid in your concentration. It can be as simple as the word "happiness" something you are thankful for, or a sanskrit phrase such as "Om Namah Shivaya" which means “I bow to that which I am becoming”. In the context of this chant, Shiva represents the inner reality…the truest nature of ourselves.

To count your mantras, hold your mala in your hand and turn each bead with your thumb and middle finger. (The index finger is believed to represent 'ego' and is not recommended to turn the beads.)

Going all the way around your mala, you will eventually reach the guru bead — the bead that dangles from the mala. This signals a time for reflection. You can reflect on your meditation practice, give thanks to your mantra, honor your guru — or show yourself a moment of gratitude for slowing down to meditate. Never continue over the guru bead. Instead, turn around and continue in the opposite direction.
