The 1st Texas Regiment carried a factory-made battle flag in addition to their unique Wigfall pattern Lone Star flag made of silk. This smaller second flag was of a design utilizing the St. Andrew’s cross with stars representing the states of the Confederacy. It was made from wool bunting captured from the Federal navy and issued to only two or three brigades in the Army of Northern Virginia in the spring and summer of 1862. This flag was carried into battle at Antietam on 17 September 1862, and was lost along with the silk Lone Star flag during the fierce fighting that took place in Miller’s cornfield. Both flags were returned to Texas in 1905 and are now part of the Historic Flags of the Texas State Library and Archives.Shipping Notes
