A pioneer in interaction design tells the stories of designers who changed the way people use everyday things in the digital era, interviewing the founders of Google, the creator of The Sims, the inventors and developers of the mouse and the desktop, and many others.

Digital technology has changed the way we interact with everything from the games we play to the tools we use at work. Designers of digital technology products no longer regard their job as designing a physical object—beautiful or utilitarian—but as designing our interactions with it. In Designing Interactions, award-winning designer Bill Moggridge introduces us to forty influential designers who have shaped our interaction with technology. Moggridge, designer of the first laptop computer (the GRiD Compass, 1981) and a founder of the design firm IDEO, tells us these stories from an industry insider's viewpoint, tracing the evolution of ideas from inspiration to outcome. The innovators he interviews—including Will Wright, creator of The Sims, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, the founders of Google, and Doug Engelbart, Bill Atkinson, and others involved in the invention and development of the mouse and the desktop—have been instrumental in making a difference in the design of interactions. Their stories chart the history of entrepreneurial design development for technology.

Moggridge and his interviewees discuss such questions as why a personal computer has a window in a desktop, what made Palm's handheld organizers so successful, what turns a game into a hobby, why Google is the search engine of choice, and why 30 million people in Japan choose the i-mode service for their cell phones. And Moggridge tells the story of his own design process and explains the focus on people and prototypes that has been successful at IDEO—how the needs and desires of people can inspire innovative designs and how prototyping methods are evolving for the design of digital technology.

Designing Interactions is illustrated with more than 700 images, with color throughout. Accompanying the book is a DVD that contains segments from all the interviews intercut with examples of the interactions under discussion.

Interviews with:
Bill Atkinson, Durrell Bishop, Brendan Boyle, Dennis Boyle, Paul Bradley, Duane Bray, Sergey Brin, Stu Card, Gillian Crampton Smith, Chris Downs, Tony Dunne, John Ellenby, Doug Englebart, Jane Fulton Suri, Bill Gaver, Bing Gordon, Rob Haitani, Jeff Hawkins, Matt Hunter, Hiroshi Ishii, Bert Keely, David Kelley, Rikako Kojima, Brenda Laurel, David Liddle, Lavrans Løvlie, John Maeda, Paul Mercer, Tim Mott, Joy Mountford, Takeshi Natsuno, Larry Page, Mark Podlaseck, Fiona Raby, Cordell Ratzlaff, Ben Reason, Jun Rekimoto, Steve Rogers, Fran Samalionis, Larry Tesler, Bill Verplank, Terry Winograd, Will Wright

👜 Effortless Spring-to-Summer Clutch That Feels One-of-a-Kind
Color: Natural
👜 Effortless Spring-to-Summer Clutch That Feels One-of-a-Kind I’ve been a longtime fan of Sam Edelman, especially because they actually make stylish pieces that work for real life. So when I saw this clutch, I had a feeling it would be good… but I didn’t expect it to hit *this* level. This bag is a vibe. The raffia texture and that half-moon fringe give it such a unique, standout look without trying too hard. It feels like the perfect piece to roll right into spring and carry straight through summer. Think beach days, dinners out, travel nights, all of it. What I love most is that it doesn’t look like everything else out there. It feels original, like you found something special instead of just grabbing another basic clutch. It’s lightweight, easy to carry, and the magnetic closure keeps things simple and secure. It also pairs effortlessly with different outfits. You can dress it up or keep it casual and it still works. Now let’s be real, it’s a designer piece, so it’s not cheap. But for the style, quality, and uniqueness, I do think it delivers strong value for money. Five stars from me. This one’s coming with me everywhere this season ☀️

Super cute clutch!
Color: Natural
This is a beautiful clutch. I got the “Natural” color, and the tones are definitely subtle. I am already eyeing the Spicy one too, but for me, the natural color is just easier to match with outfits. I did laugh though because my nephew said it looks like a taco, but honestly that just makes me love it even more! The material is extremely nice, it feels very premium and well made. I was a bit nervous because I have had cheaper bags with that shredded-style material that flakes and falls apart, but that is not the case here. It feels really well made. I cannot speak for long-term durability yet, but so far there is no shedding or anything like that. I also did not notice any loose stitching or threads at all, it just feels like a high-quality bag. It has small magnets to keep it closed, which work nicely. There is not a ton of space since it is a clutch, but there is still enough room for my phone and a few small items, so it works well. Overall, it is just a really gorgeous, well made bag, and I really do not have anything to complain about.

Lily Clutch - awkward size and fabric.
Color: Spicy, Color: Spicy
The Sam Edelman Lily Clutch handbag is a bit awkward, in my opinion. I've been told that it looks like a taco and like a folded up rug, and it does look rather awkward. It's also much larger and bulkier than I was expecting. I can't even find a comfortable or natural way to hold it. I don't love how it bulges out on the sides or the way it's difficult to grip because of the fabric design. It's eye catching and a good conversation piece, but it feels impractical. It's more of a statement piece than a useful every day bag or something I'd want to take on a long outing. It looks interesting, but it isn't a bag that makes my life easier or more compact.

Great boho clutch with lots of interest and texture, but bag itself is small, materials are fragile
Color: Spicy, Color: Spicy
This Sam Edelman Lily Clutch Handbag would be great for a beach vacation or summer getaway. It is very lightweight and almost has a fan-like appearance making it perfect for a hot Summer evening out. I ordered the 'spicy' red and natural color combo, and it looks just like in the product photos. The purse itself excluding the raffia fringe is pretty small and thin, and it does feel a bit fragile. You might be able to fit your phone, a card holder, and a lipstick in there, but that is about it. It is not lined on the inside so it is a touch see through. The magnetic closure is a nice touch and works well, and there is a brown faux leather logo on the outside. It also comes with a dustbag to store it in, which you will want to use since the raffia will easily collect dust and break off easily over time. I do understand that this is a name brand premium item, but it does feel a bit pricey given the overall quality of the materials. I would recommend this if it went on sale at a significant discount.

I think it's large for a clutch,but it's beautiful!
Color: Natural
I ordered this purse because I just love how different and fun it is. I thought it would be great for a sunny vacation. The first thing I noticed when it arrived was that it's much bigger than I thought it would be. The size is mostly in the raffia design. The purse itself is clutch-size, able to hold your phone, credit cards, and some lip gloss. Due to the size of the whole purse, I think it could use an optional strap. The quality and the craftsmanship are top-notch, however. The raffia is amazing, and the colors are very similar to a grass skirt, making it perfect for a tropical vacation or Polynesian-themed get-together.
