2. Is the controller V2 version?

3. Will the system work "out of the box" once connected up properly?will the controller display board battery voltage and controller battery voltage ?
Yes, if select the ESC (Internal Receiver) with built-in receiver and UBEC. And battery voltage detection is connected inside.
4. Will I have to update firmware and set timing etc ? I have read horror stories of burn motors that have been set up wrongly.
ESC will be set for our motor and remote before shipping. When you receive it, you just need to pair remote to the receiver.
5. What battery do you recommend please for this kit for efoil?
Recommend 12s12p or 14s12p 18650 battery pack.
6. Do I have to use a water pump if the ESC is air-cooled?
If use the ESC directly in water for cooling, then it doesn’t need water pump; If use it in air, then it need water pump for cooling. Here is waterpump link: 12V 30W water pump and DC-DC module for electric surfboard efoil electric boat ESCs/Motors
