Restrictions in the exhaust system robs horsepower and torque especially on turbocharged cars.  Thus, removing as much exhaust flow restrictions will increase horsepower and torque significantly.  The factory catalytic converter found in the factory downpipe is a big culprit of this and is a major exhaust flow restriction. The factory catalytic converter is made up of catalyst material formed into "honeycomb" weaves. Exhaust gas must pass through these tiny "honeycomb" weaves on their way to the exhaust system thus causing a major exhaust flow restriction. It also causes turbulence after the catalytic converter which causes the exhaust flow to slow down (which increases restriction). By replacing the factory downpipe/catalytic converter with our Sports Series 4" High Flow Metallic Catted Downpipe, more power is unleashed! 

The factory catalytic uses a 900 cell ceramic core. What the 900 cells means is that per every inch, there are 900 "cells" that the exhaust gas must pass through. We use a 200 cell metallic core. By having less cells per square inch, these individual "cells" are bigger in size thus allowing exhaust gas to pass through it more easily. Thus, the lower the cell count, the higher the flow. Higher flow = more power, faster turbo spool up (less turbocharger lag) and better throttle response. Bottom line, faster. The benefits of a metallic catalytic converter vs a ceramic like the factory is that it can take higher temperatures and is more durable (last longer). They are also lighter than their ceramic counterparts.

Our Sports Series 4" High Flow Catted Downpipes is constructed out of 100% 304 grade stainless steel and utilize mandrel bent piping.  They are 100% TIG welded by our in house fabricators and built in the USA.  The factory turbocharger turbine housing utilizes a 4" V-Band flange which we have duplicated and CNC machined cut out of billet 304 stainless steel.  Stainless Steel CNC machined O2 sensor and laser cut brackets are TIG welded using stainless steel rods.  The O2 sensor is positioned at the factory location.  Since the outlet of the turbocharger is 4" and the factory exhaust system is 3", the factory downpipes reduces size using short transitions from 4" before the catalytic convert and 3" afterwards.  Due to space needed for the cataylic converter, the factory downpipes reduce in size using very short transitions.  Since our catless downpipes delete the cataylic converter, we have more space.  Thus, we use very long transitions.  These longer transitions allow the exhaust gas time to smoothly transition from the larger piping to the smaller.  This results in less exhaust turbulence and backpressure which again improves throttle response and increase turbocharger spool times (less turbocharger lag). 

The factory downpipe utilizes a flex bellow section that allows the exhaust system to move.  This eliminates undue stress on the exhaust components like the exhaust system, downpipe, turbocharger and exhaust manifold.  Many of our competitors do not feel it is important to keep this.  While you do not see any adverse affects right away, over time, the stresses caused by not having a flex section and having a rigid exhaust system will cause premature wear and tear.  Any stress failures like cracks will form quicker than usual on exhaust manifolds and exhaust components.  Also, without a flex section, the exhaust system cannot properly deflect impact.  Especially on lowered cars, whenever the exhaust system contacts the ground, the entire system gets pushed up.  Without a flex, you can imagine how much stress is put into exhaust components like the exhaust manifold when the exhaust is pushed upwards.  We fully understand that durability of our products is important.  Thus, like BMW, we incorporate a flex section into our downpipe.  Our flex sections are 100% stainless steel (cheap flex sections only have stainless steel center braids and steel caps) to ensure corrosion resistance.  

xDrive (AWD) Version

On xDrive all-wheel drive models, there is a driveshaft running from the transfer case to the rear differential that the standard front wheel drive cars do not have. This driveshaft sits right underneath the downpipe and blocks the removal.  On a typical installation, you would need to disconnect the driveshaft (requires special driveshaft tool) or lower the front subframe to give enough clearance to remove the downpipe.  This adds significant installation time and complication to the installation.  Our solution is the 2 piece xDrive version allows you to remove and install the downpipe without removing the driveshaft or lowering the front subframe.  This will save you considerable time (money) on installation and allows quicker, easier servicing.

OPTIONS

Ceramic Thermal Coating - The purpose of ceramic coating downpipes is to keep heat from the exhaust gases inside the downpipe from radiating out. This keeps underhood temperatures lower and less heat absorption by nearby parts/surfaces.  Another added benefit is that by keeping in heat (energy) in the exhaust gases inside the downpipe, exhaust flow velocities stay up, resulting in lower backpressure. The ceramic coating also adds additional corrosion resistance. We utilize the best ceramic coating possible. Our thermal coating can resist up to 2000F of heat. It is available in black only (all the other colors cannot withstand the high levels of heat).

Additional O2 Sensor Bung - An additional O2 sensor bung can be added so that you can easily add a wideband O2 sensor and gauges for you to monitor air/fuel ratios. The additional O2 sensor bung will come pre-installed with a plug so that you do not need to run the O2 sensor right away.  This is not required for a normal standard installation.

Optional EGT (Exhaust Gas Temperature) Bung - An additional 1/8" NPT bung can be added so that you can easily add a EGT sensor and gauge. The optional EGT sensor bung will come pre-installed with a plug so that you do not need to run the EGT sensor right away.  This is not required for a normal standard installation.

Good legs, some what utilitarian or industrial, they are strong as they are made out of pipe, and assembly is fairly easy once you get the idea of how it goes together. They are roughly 1.5 feet across maybe a bit less adjustable height on each leg, if you have wood floors you may want to put a pad under each leg as they are full metal pipes. Pretty interesting idea and does not cost much.

Robust pipe & fittings with a beautiful, smooth black finish
Size: side table leg
This set of pipe & fittings for use as low table legs is heavy duty and aesthetically pleasing. Especially when the pieces are handled, the tactile sensation is much nicer than with plumbing steel pipe because this product is beautifully finished smooth. The black pipes are quite smooth as well as the fittings. The pieces are all also pretty robust, though the wall thicknesses are less than in pipe for pressurized water systems. Of course that makes sense as this product does not need to hold fluid pressure. In my view they got the heaviness factor of this product just right; it's not as heavy or robust as black pipe used in natural gas supplies, but still robust and pretty heavy. Assembled, this product is absolutely stiff and unyielding for a solid table that could hold a man's weight easily. The feet utilize a brilliant scheme so that each foot can be independently adjusted for an uneven floor. Thus a level table on an uneven floor is easily accomplished. The feet simply extend the effective leg length by screwing counter-clockwise. To prevent any shifting at the threads adding some pipe compound or teflon tape may be advised. Even masking or duct tape might work as the idea is to just fill any gaps where male threads meet female threads. The four flanges at the tops of the legs provide a wide, solid surface for attaching the table top, with either hidden screws underneath or you could through-bolt a glass table top (provided you have the skill to drill glass!). I think this product would look great with a glass top. Assembly is quick and easy. The hardest part is drilling holes underneath the table top to accept screws. No pipe wrenches are needed as the pieces screw together by hand to an adequate tightness. If any doubt whether they are tightened enough have a strong person with grippy gloves finish. The "X" in the center attaches to the legs with a very clever machine screw system tightened with the included hex wrench. This is presumably because if tightened simply by screwing the fittings, the point of snugness would not likely be where the "T" fittings are exactly vertical. The maker has solved this problem so that you are assured that all legs will be in the perfect vertical position once everything is tight. The setup is also nice and rigid once tightened. This is a huge benefit of steel pipe projects; they are really solid. The black finish is clearly very durable, like a powder coat. It appears that it will provide excellent protection against rust. Coverage is complete; I found no dings or scratches anywhere on any piece. Overall this is a very well-designed product for function and aesthetics. Perfect for a beautifully renovated warehouse condo where an industrial vibe is desired in a rock-solid table that won't shift around. The smoothness of the pipe is top notch. I've used lots of pipe in projects, some of it actual water pipe and some decorative pipe such as this. I've never seen better quality decorative pipe as this maker put in the effort to finish it beautifully smooth. At currently $34.99 I find the price quite reasonable too.
