Rust care instructions
Care Instructions – Rusted Metal
Rust and scratches are natural and self-healing. Leaving your item outside allows it to develop its
unique patina. Hairspray can help prevent rust from spreading temporarily if styling indoors.
To accelerate rust, lightly spray with vinegar or lemon and water.
Why Rust May Turn Dark
Wet–dry cycles and garden tannins can darken rust.
Sealants or oils may react to the sun and rain, turning
areas black or dark brown. This is normal patina progression and not a problem.
Keeping the Orange Rust Look
1.Clean – mix water with a little vinegar or mild soap,
scrub gently, then rinse and dry.
2.Enhance Rust (Optional) – mix vinegar, hydrogen
peroxide, and a pinch of salt to bring back bright
orange tones.
3.Seal – Use a matte clear metal sealer (Penetrol, Rust
Oleum, or similar) to lock in the colour.
