Not only is it lovely to the eye, but the palo santo beads smell heavenly - a wonderfully woody scent with a hint of citrus. 

These palo santo wood beads come from the Bursera graveolens tree, which grows in the dry tropical forests of South America - primarily Ecuador, Peru and Brazil. 

The wood is aromatic because the tree produces a fragrant resin.

In between the wood beads are vibrantly colorful African recycled glass beads - one large red, blue and green - each sandwiched between two black shungite rondelles. These provide stunning contrast to the light brown wood rounds. 

The bracelet is strung on flexible multi-strand jewelry wire for excellent strength and durability. It closes with a very unique and striking brass elephant clasp!

What Makes Palo Santo Special?

The name "palo santo" translates to "holy wood" in Spanish. Palo santo wood has been used medicinally for thousands of years. Shamans burn palo santo during religious ceremonies, during meditation and for purification - but it has many other benefits. Palo santo is said to raise your vibration and enhance creativity, among other things. 

Sustainable Harvesting

These palo santo beads were sourced from sustainable harvesters who harvest it the proper way, which is very important to the conservation of this special resource. Once the tree dies of natural causes at age 50 to 70 years, it must be left for a minimum of 5 to 8 years on the forest floor to allow for maturation of the natural oils. Skilled foresters tag the downed tree, noting its age and often planting a palo santo sapling beside its fallen elder. Only after these long years of proper "seasoning" is the wood harvested for use.
