The Quiet Temple have announced details of the release of their self-titled debut album on Friday June 28th 2019. An amorphous musical collective put together by Rich Machin and Duke Garwood, with a rolling cast of players assembled from the likes of Soulsavers, Spiritualized, Stereolab and Julian Cope. Recorded live over the course of a week, there was no splicing of takes, as that would have defeated the concept. On occasion the group performed a live edit where they would take sections from different takes, but the original intention of creating a record where everything was recorded live was maintained. The result is a potent and nuanced record that beguiles as much as it charms. Across six tracks the album moves from the languorous lysergic shuffle of the opening The Last Opium Den (On Earth) to the beatific - almost Balearic - lazy grooves of The Bible Black. Elsewhere, the opening cinematic vistas of Shades of Gemini soon gives way to something far more menacing and whisky-sodden. Finally, the closing Utopia & Visions takes the electronic post-punk visions of Talk Talk into unapologetic cosmic dub territory. So while jazzs spirit of wanderlust underpins the record, Machin is defiant that The Quiet Temple is not a jazz album. I don't think it's a jazz record, he states. It's got a lot of Krautrocky stuff going on in it as well. For me, as well as the Alice Coltrane influence, it's equal parts Velvet Underground and Harmonia. There's lots of psyche rock and other elements in there too.

I teach art all the time, everywhere

Janice E. is correct in explaining a creative outlook. It's absolutely part of human existence because of who God is, what he has done, and continues to do. This Pandemic has brought home a fact to me. Whatever tries to control our membership in the human race better learn it cannot totally destroy our spirit. I connect the beginning of my day with prayer and writing a short letter to God where I can ask anything and I can then watch for his answers. Then I seek how I might do creative pieces. Yes, it takes perseverance to excell but the spirit that is creative needs to step forward. Janice E., good job by your warmth and friendly encouragement.

Amazing!
Format: Paperback
I had a desire to write but nothing would come to me. Then, I began to read this book. It was a game changer! Three chapters into this book and I began to see scenes in my head for a story I am now writing. It all started to flow out of me and I credit this book for getting that started. Journeying through this book also strengthened my faith and validated that taking time for my talent is not selfish, it’s a form of worship. I highly recommend this book!

Great spiritual guidebook for the creative soul!
Format: Paperback
Janice Elsheimer has written a wonderful guidebook for Christian creatives, helping to unlock and unleash their God given gifts of talent for a purpose much higher than their own artistic satisfaction. Scripture verses anchor the chapters, along with soul-searching exercises, making this a very much needed manual to help spiritually lead creatives to a deeper relationship with The Creator. The dozen people in our first group at our Methodist church in East Texas are really being ignited into creative action and are excited and encouraged each week as they experience their newfound creative DNA being awakened and revealed to them. Bravo and much gratitude to a great book and a great author!

Getting to know me

I have been enjoying this book. It has helped me to reconnect with the God given gifts that I had forgotten about. I like it because it is not just a straight read. You are encouraged to take you time and reflect or take action. I am discovering a sense of purpose.

Recommended read for all artists!

This book encourages reflection on your God-given talents in the arts. If you've abandoned your talents for any reason-- busyness, lack of confidence, etc.-- this book is a great tool for helping you heal and restore that part of your life for the glory of God. It contains helpful journaling activities and encourages honest, expectant prayer as you go through the journey of awakening your artistic gifts.
