Mega Afi is the L-yarn version of my Afi sweater, which was originally knitted in E-yarn. For this version, I chose the natural “sheep colors,” as they are called in Iceland. When I was a teenager, knitting lopapeysur (Icelandic wool sweaters) endlessly at my grandmother’s house, only sheep colors were considered the real thing – dyed sweaters were mostly made for tourists back then. For me, this sweater is therefore also a journey back to my roots and to childhood memories.

The sweater is worked in the round from the top down. The round begins at the center of the back. The sweater is made with Italian/invisible cast-on and cast-off. The yoke is knitted in a three coloured pattern. Once the yoke is finished, the work is separated for the sleeves and body, and each section is worked separately in the round and finished with 1x1 ribbing. German short rows are worked on the collar, to ensure a comfortable fit.
