Shrunken heads are specially prepared human heads that were used for trophy, ritual, or trade purposes by the Jivaro tribe in the Amazon Rainforest. Westerners in the early 1900's increased the demand for shrunken heads and heads were freely exchanged by the 1930's until the Peruvian and Ecuadorians outlawed trafficking of human heads.
