The Fellowes PrivaScreen Blackout Privacy Filter for 21.5" wide monitors is your go-to solution for safeguarding sensitive information in a world where privacy is increasingly at risk. Whether you’re working in a bustling coffee shop, in a busy office, or at home, this innovative privacy filter helps you maintain confidentiality without sacrificing screen clarity. Designed to fit standard 21.5" widescreen monitors, the PrivaScreen Blackout filter narrows the viewing angle so only the person directly in front of the screen can read what's on display. In other words, you can keep private data, client information, and personal notes out of sight from prying eyes while still enjoying crisp visuals and reliable performance. This is privacy made practical for modern workspaces, combining trusted Fellowes engineering with a sleek, unobtrusive design that blends with any desk setup.

  • The best-in-class privacy experience: The PrivaScreen Blackout privacy filter uses a specialized optical layer to limit horizontal viewing angles. From the side, your screen appears dark or completely black, making sensitive content unreadable to passersby or collaborators. This means you can review confidential documents, financial data, or personal information with confidence, even in open seating arrangements. The blackout effect is consistent from any side angle, so you don’t have to adjust your stance or screen position to protect information during quick meetings or casual conversations around you. This level of privacy helps support compliance with privacy policies and reduces the risk of information leakage in public or semi-public spaces.
  • Clear forward-facing viewing without compromise: While privacy is enhanced from edge-to-edge, the content viewed directly by you remains sharp, bright, and easy to read. The filter is engineered to preserve color accuracy and contrast for everyday tasks, so spreadsheets, emails, design previews, and presentations stay legible. This balance between privacy and clarity is crucial for long hours at the desk, ensuring that you can perform complex tasks, compare data, or proof documents without straining your eyes or losing critical details. The result is a comfortable, productive viewing experience that respects your need for discretion.
  • Smart compatibility for 21.5" monitors: Built to fit standard 21.5" widescreen displays, this privacy filter is a versatile accessory for a wide range of computer setups. It accommodates common aspect ratios and screen dimensions while maintaining a slim profile that won’t feel bulky on the desk. The lightweight construction makes it easy to carry between workstations and conference rooms, so you can deploy privacy protection wherever you work. It’s an ideal addition to corporate workstations, home offices, education environments, or any space where screen privacy matters without adding visual clutter.
  • Durable, easy to maintain: The PrivaScreen Blackout filter is designed to withstand daily use in dynamic work environments. Its materials resist scratching and wear, helping the filter stay clear and effective over time. Cleaning is simple: gently remove dust with a microfiber cloth and wipe away fingerprints or smudges to restore a pristine viewing surface. This durability ensures that the privacy benefits endure through countless workstation setups, meetings, and collaborations, while keeping your screen looking professional and well-maintained.
  • Discreet, user-friendly design: The privacy filter is designed to sit subtly on your monitor without obstructing your peripheral vision when you’re looking straight ahead. The matte finish minimizes reflections and glare, reducing eye strain in bright offices or sunlit rooms. The filter’s transparent forward view remains natural and comfortable, helping you stay productive during long work sessions. For teams and individuals who value privacy but don’t want a bulky or obtrusive solution, the PrivaScreen Blackout filter delivers a clean, professional look that blends with any workspace aesthetic.

Technical Details of Fellowes PrivaScreen Blackout Privacy Filter - 21.5" Wide

Technical details for this privacy filter are specific to SKU and UPC. Details vary by product configuration, and exact measurements, mounting options, and compatibility should be verified against the official specifications for your exact UPC or SKU. In general, the Fellowes PrivaScreen Blackout Privacy Filter is sized to fit 21.5" wides monitors and is designed to minimize off-angle visibility while maintaining a clear, readable forward view. The filter features a protective, durable surface with a glare-reducing finish, optimized for everyday desk use. The matte surface helps reduce reflections and enhances on-screen readability in bright environments, supporting comfortable all-day use.

Notes on specifications

Because specifications depend on the exact SKU and UPC, always refer to the product’s official specifications page for your precise details. If you’re upgrading an existing setup or configuring multiple workstations, verify measurement tolerances, edge clearance, and any mounting hardware included with your particular model. This ensures the filter integrates smoothly with your monitor’s bezels and any protective covers or screen housings you may use in your environment.

How to Install Fellowes PrivaScreen Blackout Privacy Filter - 21.5" Wide

  • Prepare your workspace: Power off your monitor and wipe the screen with a microfiber cloth to remove dust and fingerprints. A clean surface helps ensure a precise fit and reduces the likelihood of air pockets or misalignment during installation.
  • Align the filter with the display: Hold the privacy filter above the screen and align the edges with the monitor’s bezel. Make sure the opening or alignment guides (if present) match the top, bottom, and sides of your display to ensure even coverage and a seamless appearance.
  • Attach using provided mounting means: Depending on your model, the privacy filter may use a simple snap-on frame, adhesive tabs, or an adjustable mounting kit. Secure the filter carefully, ensuring it sits flush against the screen without creating gaps or bowing. Avoid applying excessive force, which could damage the screen or mounting hardware.
  • Test visibility and adjust: Power on the monitor and verify that the forward-facing view is clear and that the privacy effect is functioning as intended. Move to the side to confirm the blackout privacy distance and ensure readings on the screen remain protected from side angles. If needed, adjust the filter position for optimal coverage and minimal edge glare.
  • Maintain and remove when needed: When you need to share your screen or collaborate, simply reverse the installation steps to remove and store the filter safely. Clean the surface with a microfiber cloth before reapplication to maintain clarity and privacy effectiveness over time.

Frequently asked questions

Does the privacy filter affect screen brightness or color accuracy?

Yes, like many privacy filters, there may be a slight reduction in perceived brightness when the filter is in place. The impact on color accuracy is typically minimal for most daily tasks, and the privacy benefit often outweighs the minor brightness change. If you work with color-critical applications, test the filter for your workflow and adjust brightness or contrast settings as needed to maintain comfortable viewing and accurate results.

Is the filter easy to remove and reattach?

Absolutely. The PrivaScreen Blackout Privacy Filter is designed for straightforward installation and removal. It can be detached without leaving adhesive residue on the screen, allowing you to switch between private viewing and shared viewing scenarios quickly. This makes it well suited for shared workspaces, hot-desking environments, or workflow scenarios that require flexible privacy management.

What monitors are compatible with this 21.5" wide privacy filter?

The filter is sized for 21.5" wides monitors and is intended to fit most displays with similar dimensions. To ensure proper fit and privacy performance, verify that your monitor’s dimensions align with the filter’s specifications for a secure and flush installation. If you’re unsure about compatibility, consult your monitor’s measurements and compare them with the product’s official sizing guidance.

How should I clean the filter?

Clean the privacy filter with a soft microfiber cloth. If needed, lightly dampen the cloth with water or a mild cleaning solution recommended by the manufacturer. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive materials, or excessive moisture, as these can damage the surface or reduce the effectiveness of the privacy layer. Regular cleaning helps maintain clarity and privacy performance over time.

Skeptical at first, but after first use (so far) it’s a solid product
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I initially bought this to stay at my MIL’s senior community (to help her get settled), so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on it and I planned to leave it for other relatives that might want to visit. I expected it to be cheap-ish quality and probably not last through my two week stay. First off, set up was a breeze. I laid it out and started inflation and it took about 4-5 minutes to fully inflate. The motor made noise, but it’s to be expected from something like this—I can say that it wasn’t as noisy as our Costco-bought mattress. Second, it’s big—but that’s not a bad thing as much as I thought anyway after I saw it fully inflated. Turns out, for me, it’s a good thing. Our Costco mattress sits low to the floor and as it deflates a bit during the night, it’s tough to get up. This one (the 22” model and the largest one at this writing) is wonderful as I can sit on the edge of it and stand up easily. Your experience may be different, but for older folks it makes it really easy to get out of bed in the morning. How does it sleep? Well, since I was visiting by myself and my significant other wasn’t with me, I can only speak for a single sleeper. It was really comfortable! It did take a bit of tweaking though as I thought I would like it more firm as I like to side sleep. The first couple of nights were a bit rough as I tossed and turned a bit in my sleep—I found that I couldn’t get comfortable on my side. For the reviews that say that it deflates after sleeping on it, I can say that it did seem to lose some air after the first two nights. The manufacturer does state that it does “stretch” and not deflate. As I wanted to test that statement, I didn’t change the firmness of it by re-inflating it to where I had it. The third and fourth nights were better sleep and I didn’t feel like the mattress deflated at all, so I found the stretch statement to be valid—it wasn’t losing air. After that night, I re-inflated it to where I thought I’d like it. The next night was the same tossing and turning that I had those first two nights, so I concluded that I needed to make it less firm and I actually DEflated it a bit and for the rest of the stay it was perfect! I didn’t have to touch it and I even unplugged it. When I was getting ready to leave, I started the deflation process by turning the dial in the opposite direction. It took longer to deflate, so I walked away for a bit—I’d guess about 7-8 minutes. When I came back the mattress was flat as a pancake and ready to fold. This is the only hassle of the process as folding it to get it into the storage bag and back into the box (for storage). I do like the tote that they provide as the handles make it easy to lug about. So, the first use was a success. If repeated uses reveal issues, I’ll report back. I will say that I plan to buy another one to replace our beloved Costco air mattress—she’s showing her age and the height of this one as well as the cost make it a no-brainer to get it as a second. We’ll use this one until it dies (if it even does) and then fall back on our old one if needed. I gave an overall 5 stars for the product with 4 stars for sleep quality and comfort only because your idea of these two might be a bit of a learning experience until you find your inflation sweet spot—so it’s not just an “inflate fully and use” type of scenario.

Leaking mattress 2nd use, Good Warranty Help, Bag not durable
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
UPDATE: first time I slept alone, all was good. Our second week to use, we were past the warranty. Tried to sleep on it with two people and it's deflating. I don't believe it's the weight because it deflates when no one is using it as well. Contacted company, they are very helpful, and I believe you're speaking to someone in the US. You can remove the pump and there's a gasket that you can try to snug up. That did not help so they are shipping a new mattress to me. Removed star because bag already had hole at seam when delivered, and it's not durable. I'll contact the company and update. The bag isn't looking durable. Mattress does seem very durable. Blows up and deflates as expected. It does have a plastically smell when you first inflate, and again when I deflated. I can't complain, it's plastic lol. If smells bother you, just inflate ahead of time in another space. Deflating smell was stronger of two. Again, just deflate in another ventilated space. The mattress didn't continue to smell with use. Make sure you have deep pocket sheets. There is no indent for the bottom of the elastic to go around. I only had to fix them once in 8 nights. I slept alone, so I can't say how it would be with two. I'll update when we sleep on our with two people. But I found it very firm and comfortable. I've been having some back & neck pain. It didn't cause any problems. Might have to add some air 2nd night as the mattress might stretch a bit first time using. Found it to be true queen size. Cord/plug a little tricky to store back in the compartment within mattress. Does take some time to deflat. It folds easily and compact, but I'll have to figure out the configuration of exactly how to fold it to get it to fit into the bag once I get a replacement. I believe you'll need two people to get it in the bag. It's heavier than the thinner mattresses. So much nicer having the higher height, especially if you're going to sleep on it for more than one night. I think I went with the 22".

Quiet Inflation and Solid Comfort
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I’ve been really impressed with this air mattress. The firmness is spot on—it doesn’t feel like you’re sinking or fighting to stay level like a lot of other inflatables. It actually holds its shape well enough to feel close to a real bed, which surprised me. One of the biggest things for me was how well it holds air. I left it set up for 3 days straight, and it barely lost any pressure. I only needed to top it off slightly, which is way better than most air mattresses I’ve used that need daily reinflation. The built-in pump is another win. It inflates quickly and, more importantly, it’s relatively quiet compared to others. You’re not blasting the whole house when you set it up late at night. Deflation is just as easy, which makes packing it up for storage or camping super convenient. I’ve used it both for guests and for camping, and it performs great in both situations. It’s comfortable enough that guests don’t feel like they’re getting the “temporary bed,” and durable enough to handle being moved around. Overall, this is one of the better air mattresses I’ve owned—reliable, comfortable, and easy to use. Definitely recommend if you want something that won’t let you down after the first night.

From an IDOO 18" to this Intex 22" queen air mattress
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
I have been sleeping on air mattresses for about 5 years now. Yes, every night. The reason is that I cannot afford a decent new mattress and before switching to an air mattress, I had used mattresses. Most developed "sink holes" and those who sleep on an older mattress know what I mean - a spring or something inside has shifted and that spot...well, it's a dip that you have to figure out how to avoid when sleeping. But the basic reason is because I am an older lady that lives alone and when I have moved, I have moved myself so as not to bother people. I have mostly flat pack furniture so I can break it down and move it myself. Having an air mattress fits right in with that ease of moving my own stuff. The IDOO I had was a great deal, though I had last had a King Coil 22" that I really liked EXCEPT for their "pillow" area (the part at the head is inclined and that bothered me since I am an "arm sleeper" - put one arm up under my pillow, under my head and hang it off the bed). Other than that part King Coil is a great air mattress bed. Now for this Intex - I have had a couple of different Intex items and find they make quality stuff - first was a smaller, rectangular pool that wasn't too hard to set up (but I did need a friend to help with putting it up) and I currently have their inflatable loveseat that unfolds to become a bed. It's a nice extra piece of furniture/bed, but wish it had the internal pump which it doesn't. Still, it is a serviceable spare seating and sleeping piece that can be put up quickly enough. NOW, for this bed - back to my 22" height and I am SO HAPPY with that part of it. When you are older, getting UP off something is harder than scooting down off that same thing! Meaning that I have no problem getting on a bed (no matter what the height), but in the morning, when I'm groggy and not 100%, trying to push myself up off the 18" wasn't horrible, but it wasn't fun at all. With this Intex 22" queen, my feet dangle just a bit off the floor and pushing myself off and DOWN is just so much easier. I was also relieved that the pump is at the top (or could be the bottom, depending on how you orient the bed) as my outlet is at that spot on the wall behind the bed. The IDOO had the pump on the side so the cord had to be put up under the bed...I didn't like that. This Intex, like all the air mattresses with an internal pump, it inflates (and deflates) very quickly. Around 5 minutes. What's easy is taking down an air mattress - most of them come with a carry case as this one did - and if you flip the sides in, then do a fourths fold up, it will fit in the bag and isn't too terribly heavy even for me to carry. The IDOO developed a leak and instead of trying to patch it, as I have slept on it for about 2 years, I deflated it, put it in the bag it came with and threw it away. This Intex, I had it out of the box an fully inflated in less than 10 minutes. Made the bed and laid down on it - aaahhhh! So, if you are in need of a spare bed for overnight guests on occasion OR you have had it with your lumpy old "regular" mattress and having sticker shock over the memory foam, purple, pillow top and other replacements, you might want to try an air mattress. Even if you only use it long enough to save enough money for one of those $500-$1000 mattress, this $75 mattress will allow you to sleep well, night after night after night.

Better than our actual mattress!!
Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen, Style: 22", Color: Grey, Size: Queen
Purchased for company to stay with us in our apartment. I honestly had no idea they made air mattresses this tall until I saw a friend with one! My husband and I tested it out last night. We were both really impressed! 1. Really easy to inflate! First time having an internal air pump. No more forgetting the pump! The motor wasn’t nearly as loud as our previous air pump! I was able to talk to my husband and he could still hear me over the pump running. 2. Really comfortable and supportive! We chose not to inflate it fully so it contoured to our bodies better. We slept on the mattress with no sheets and I wasn’t able to feel the creases in the top which was nice. No issues with sagging and we both didn’t wake up smooshed in the middle. My husband got up in the middle of the night and I didn’t notice. So movement of the mattress is minimal! Easy to get on and off with the 22” height. 3. Easy to deflate! We followed the instructions for folding and we got it in the storage bag with no issues. Just make sure all of the air is out before you fold it. 4. High quality! We had both of our small dogs on this with us. I was afraid of their nails poking a hole but so far so good! Only a little bit of air leaked out but it could’ve been the material stretching out during the night. Cons: The pump does not shut off automatically when inflating or deflating. So keep an eye on it so it doesn’t overfill. The mattress does get cold at night. My husband and I both mentioned that in the morning. I had to roll up in my blanket to stay warm. I’ll try sheets on next time. In the summer it might not be that big of an issue. Ours came with one patch. Hopefully we won’t need to use it.
