We have lost our way when it comes to treating serious mental illness: this is a powerful call to arms from highly respected doctor and therapist, Penelope Campling.

'Deeply thoughtful and compassionate' Susie Orbach, author of In Therapy

'As a GP I wish I could send patients to Penelope Campling; as someone worried about failing mental health services, I wish she were in charge.' Gavin Francis, author of Adventures in Human Being

NHS psychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr Penelope Campling has spent a lifetime on the frontline of mental health care, working with patients in crisis. Now she has an urgent message for us all: with our health service at breaking point, we are failing people in serious mental distress. We can and must do better.

Dr Campling invites us into her therapy room. At the forefront of a radically new approach to working with mental illness, she shows how therapeutic communities have helped her patients to break generational cycles of trauma, change crippling internal narratives of shame and despair, overcome abuse and rebuild their lives to find meaning and hope.

Moving and insightful, On the Brink combines patients’ stories with candid self-reflections on the difficult business of helping others.

'A book with the power to move and inform . . . [Campling] is an expert in "intelligent kindness".' Gwen Adshead, author of The Devil You Know

'[An] insightful, important book . . . an exhibition of what could be possible and an invitation to act to deliver that vision.' Kathryn Mannix, author of Listen

'This book oozes compassion and kindness and made me want to be a more understanding doctor.' Kate Milton, British Journal of GP Practice

Previously published in hardback under the title Don’t Turn Away: Stories of Troubled Minds in Fractured Times

This bar cart works well for small spaces or areas. I got this cart since I live in a 700 sq ft apartment and I needed something that would store all my liquor and equipment, as I barely have any counter space. As seen in the photo, it looks great, too. Was relatively easy to assemble as well. The only complaint I have is the wheels. I seriously considered taking them off as they can be annoying at times and get stuck easily. If it wasn’t for the wheels, I would’ve given the cart 5 stars. Still works great given how inexpensive it is.

          Perfect for the Price!

The bar cart was very easy to put together. I can be "mechanically challenged" and was able to do it myself LOL It's nice and sturdy, the wheels roll smooth when you move it. The size is perfect for the small wall I have it against. I have several bottles of liquor and bartending mixer set on top, and about 20 various glassware on the 2nd shelf. The bottom shelf is taller, and does let you stand larger bottles down there. The one racks will only for the smaller size, but does hold them well.

Decent bar cart, but very annoying assembly

I think it looks nice and is decent value, but this thing is a pain to put together. Instead of just sending 3 shelves, you get 6 pieces to connect together to make 3 shelves. On top of that - they don’t even really connect. It would be 1000x easier if they added a couple of wooden pegs to connect the 2 pieces together. Instead, you have to do a balancing act which is tedious as can be. I ended up super glueing 2 of the 3 shelves togethers after how annoying the first was, so I would highly recommend you do the same. The whole process of putting it together feels like a balancing act. For something so small, it’s about as annoying as possible to put together. Nearly every step requires you to balance something and screw it in. Most of this would be alleviated if, as I said, it was just 3 pieces for the shelves instead of 6. But, you get what you pay for. Overall, I can’t complain too much for the price and result, but I wasn’t a fan of building it. It’d also look a little nicer if each shelf didn’t have a crack going through it.
