伊莎貝爾‧布里格斯‧邁爾斯 Isabel Briggs Myers
1897年10月誕生於華府，出身學術世家，父親萊曼‧布里格斯（Lyman J. Briggs）是著名的物理學家，且曾任美國國家標準局（National Bureau of Standards）局長（現為國家標準暨技術研究院National Institute of Standards and Technology）；母親凱薩琳・庫克・布里格斯（Katharine Cook Briggs）以優等成績畢業於密西根州立大學。
伊莎貝爾自幼對於閱讀、書寫小說特別有興趣。她曾以驚人的4個多月期限，一面照顧2個幼年的孩子，一面完成了一部推理小說《不存在的謀殺案》，一舉奪下New McClure雜誌與史托克出版公司（Frederic A. Stokes Company）合辦的「全國最佳懸疑偵探小說獎」第一名，獲得「最佳潛力新人作家」榮銜。那部推理小說也成為全美暢銷書，數月之內就連續加印7刷。
伊莎貝爾很早就展現她在觀察、紀錄上的出色能力。她與母親凱薩琳一起受到心理學家榮格的啟發，開始觀察如何將人格分類。榮格非常肯定她們的成就，還多次去信鼓勵她們持續研究。
第二次大戰爆發後，兩人更加堅定自己的信念：人與人之間的差異所造成的誤解，可能產生毀滅文明的嚴重後果，因此更有需要找到一種可靠的、有系統的「理解他人、幫助他人」的方法。這套方法，後來逐漸發展成今日我們所知的MBTI人格分類法。
