artist bio
Gustav Adolf Engelbert Bertel-Nordström was born on 19 April 1884 in Helsinki. He was Finnish-Swedish painter, draughtsman, and later also active as a sculptor.

Bertel-Nordström began his career as an office clerk but was soon engaged as an illustrator for newspapers and magazines in both Finland and Sweden. He was self-taught as an artist and undertook study trips to Copenhagen, Paris, Dresden, Munich, Florence and Venice. Since 1915 he was based mainly in Stockholm and along the west coast of Sweden (Båstad and Hov’s Hallar).

He moved from his native Finland to Sweden in 1914 and first exhibited in Stockholm in 1915 and participated in numerous group exhibitions as well as several solo shows. He was an active member of the Optimistgruppens (Optimist Group) of artists. An athlete and former wrestler himself, he was one of the founders of the association Konsten i sporten (“Art in Sport”) and served as its chairman from 1943 to 1946. He was also commissioner for the Swedish art exhibition at the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin. Bertel-Nordström became a member of the Swedish Artists’ Association in 1933 and was also affiliated with the National Council of Artists.

Bertel-Nordström was a romantic painter of powerful temperament, whose art was imbued with lyrical pathos. In some respects he continued the national romantic tradition begun by the Konstnärsförbundet’s “blue painters” of the 1890s, while his depictions of coastal landscapes and cliffs also drew upon the heritage of Marcus Larson’s dramatic painting. His style, however, remained distinctly personal. As Ragnar Josephson wrote: “His depiction of Stockholm’s heights in the snow of early spring, with the lights twinkling along the slopes, possesses a penetrating depth and icy clarity that no longer recalls his predecessors.” His strong sense of colour, once vigorous and forceful, evolved over the years into a finer and more resonant harmony. His palette was dominated by blue and green tones, and his bizarre clown figures and dramatic portraits added to a highly individual and unsentimental oeuvre.

He also painted stage designs, including those for Tolstoy’s The Living Corpse and Frank Wedekind’s Erdgeist. As a sculptor, Bertel-Nordström made his debut in Falun in 1951 with an exhibition of around ten portrait and figure studies in terracotta and bronze.

Examples of his work are held in the collections of the National Museum in Stockholm, the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the Gothenburg Art Museum, Malmö Museum, Jämtlands Museum, Norrköpings Museum and Ataneum in Helsinki.

He was married twice - first from 1917 to 1928, to the sculptor Gertrud Paulina Ninnan Santesson, and second, from 1934 to 1939, to the singer Alice Margareta Högfors.

Bertel-Nordström passed away in Stockholm at the age of 83 on August 22, 1967.

To strengthen and add shine.
Scent: Bright Coffee, Size: 4.06 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Absolutely love this Batana Oil! My hair feels softer, thicker, and much healthier after just a few uses. It helps with dryness and gives my hair a natural shine without feeling greasy. The scent is nice and the jar lasts a long time because a little goes a long way. Highly recommend for anyone looking to improve hair growth and overall hair health!

I’ve been very happy with this Batana Oil. It feels like a high-quality, 100% raw and natural product. Since adding it to my hair care routine, my hair has felt softer, more moisturized, and healthier overall. I’ve also noticed less breakage and improved manageability.

Clear Self Tanner, Main Character Results
Color: Ultra Dark, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I love, love, LOVEEE b.tan. I discovered them during lockdown in 2020 when we were all chasing serotonin and a decent glow, and I’ve been loyal ever since. The scent, the color, the fact that I never end up orange or streaky… they’ve earned my trust. So when I saw they had a clear gel formula, curiosity won. Immediately. And yes, it delivered. Packaging (small detail, big win): Before we even get to the tan itself, I need to mention the pump clip. The bottle arrived with a little clip around the pump stem so it couldn’t be pressed during shipping. No leaks. No mystery tan explosions. I’ve kept the clip for travel because it’s genius. More brands need to do this. Gel consistency: This gel is the perfect middle ground. Not thick and sticky, not watery and messy. It spreads easily and evenly, especially with a tanning mitt, which I always recommend no matter the formula. It glides on smoothly and blends without effort. No panic blending, no racing the clock. No-rinse, no transfer: It goes on completely clear, which means no guide color, no stained sheets, and no awkward “don’t touch me” phase. It dries fairly quickly too. I was dry enough in about 10 minutes to throw on loose sweats and go about my evening. Dark, loose clothing is still your friend, but this formula is forgiving. Color & glow: This develops fast. Within 20–30 minutes, I could already see color starting to come through. By about 5–6 hours later, I had a deep, sun-kissed bronze that looked natural and even. No streaks. No orange tones. Just a rich glow that looks like you spent time outside instead of with a mitt in your bathroom. On top of all of this it leaves my skin feeling hydrated like I used a body lotion. Scent: This is one of the reasons I keep coming back to b.tan. There’s no classic self-tanner smell. It actually smells good, fresh and clean, and that stays true even as the tan develops. No “what is that smell?” moments. Product usage & value: What surprised me most is how little product I used compared to foam formulas. A little goes a long way. At $15 for a large bottle, the value is excellent, especially considering how dark and even the results are. Overall, this gel is everything I want in a self-tanner: easy, clear, fast-developing, great-smelling, and deeply bronzing without drama. Five stars, zero hesitation, and officially my new go-to in the b.tan lineup.

Sun kissed without the sun damage!
Color: Ultra Dark, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1), Color: Ultra Dark, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I’m officially obsessed with this self tanner. The glow is unreal! Super natural, bronzy, and not even a hint of orange. It gives that “just got back from vacation” look without the sun damage. It actually smells GOOD while applying, which is rare for self tanners. Typical self tanner smell once it sets. It goes on clear, which I love because there’s zero transfer onto clothes or sheets. The only downside is that since there’s no guide color, it can be a little tricky to see where you’ve already applied it, so take your time and blend well. But honestly... The end result is flawless, even, glowy skin. 100% a staple for me now!

Good lasting color
Color: Ultra Dark, Size: 16 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I have been a big fan of this brand for quite a while. I do like this specific one. The smell is not over baring however I always mix any self tanner with lotion or oil to help it go on more evenly as well as masks and possible unappealing smell. It does not rub off on clothes unless your sweating then it may but I refrain from wearing white the first day I apply but after that it’s no problem. Color is good for me. I’m fair skinned so it doesn’t so it works well for me. But the downside to that is it can be more noticeable when it starts to fade because it doesn’t fade evenly. It fades as your skin cells slough off so a good exfoliating shower helps with that. Then reapply! And the color last longer then most other brands I’ve tried
