Communication an effective building block in an organisation

Communication is essential for managers in order to perform their jobs and responsibilities. Communication forms the foundation for planning, and all essential information must be communicated to managers in order for them to implement plans. Organizing also requires effective communication with others about their job tasks. Similarly, leaders as managers must communicate effectively with their subordinates in order to achieve team goals. Controlling is not possible without written and oral communication.

Managers devote a great part of their time to communication. They generally spend approximately 6 hours per day communicating. They spend great time on face-to-face or telephonic communication with their superiors, subordinates, colleagues, customers or suppliers.

An effective communication system is essential for any organization to function properly. Without effective communication, managers would be unable to deliver and receive messages properly, which would lead to a breakdown in the organization. Therefore, it is the primary responsibility of a manager to develop and maintain an effective communication system. To do this, a manager must discover various barriers to communication, analyse the reasons for their occurrence and take preventive steps to avoid those barriers. By taking these steps, a manager can ensure that the communication system in the organization is effective and efficient.

Background – Common types of workplace communication

Communication in the workplace is important because it can boost employee morale, engagement, productivity, and satisfaction. Good communication is also key for better team collaboration and cooperation. Ultimately, effective workplace communication helps drive better results for individuals, teams, and organizations.

To take it a step further, specifically as a manager, building good communication skills has profound short- and long-term benefits for your organization. An effective communicator is able to motivate their team to get more done with better results and fewer misunderstandings. And who doesn’t want fewer misunderstandings?

All of these things can contribute to the company’s success — and to your own personal success as a leader.

1 – Leadership communication - When it comes to communicating with their team, leaders usually opt for a one-way method. This could be because their goal is to update or inform them about something (e.g. a new company policy), or because they're trying to encourage and inspire commitment. Oftentimes, leaders communicate through stories rather than data.

2 - Upward communication - When you're a manager (or even just a team member), you often have to communicate with people who are higher up than you in the company. This might be in the form of memos/emails, reports, or just a slot in a regular meeting. No matter what the format is, these types of communications should be considered more formal.

3 - Updates - Updates often fall short of being a type of strong communication. Use a visual tracker or dashboard to carry the load, and save your verbal or written commentary for drawing the audience’s attention to what is most important — typically, what requires action or further involvement from them. This might include surprises, obstacles, and potential risks, as well as wins.

4 – Presentations - Whether you're giving a TED talk or just trying to persuade your boss, presentations are a key communication tool. They can be used to inform, influence, and persuade your audience. Plus, many people fear public speaking, so you need to be extra 14/10 if you want to stand out. Thanks, TED!

5 – Official meeting - We all know that meetings are a necessary evil. They can be a great way to get everyone on the same page, but they can also be a huge time waster. The key to having effective meetings is to make sure they are well-organized and focused. You should also make sure that everyone who attends feels like they were able to contribute. Thanks for reading!

6 – Communicating with customers - When communicating with customers, it's important to be thoughtful and considerate. You want to provide them with the information they need, in the format they prefer. And of course, you want to make sure you're creating a positive impression of your company and your product. Keep all of this in mind and you'll be sure to succeed!

7 – Informal communication - Informal interactions are all about the emails and chats you engage in every day. You use them to make requests, ask for information, respond to requests, and give or receive support and guidance. But informal communications also help you form social connections, build culture, establish trust, and find common ground. They're an important part of moving the work of the organization forward.

The 5 Minute books are a perfect way to read great stories and see beautiful illustrations every night before bed and not have long stories that takes away from bedtime routines. Cute book, damaged on arrival
Format: Hardcover
The book arrived with some damage to the cover and corners, but the pages inside are fine and the stories are enjoyable. My child liked reading them at bedtime. Consider checking the condition on delivery if you want it gift-ready.
