Premium A grade nori, by the fifty-sheet pack.

A grade sits just below the top A+ tier: fine, glossy, deeply savoury sheets with the strength to roll and cut cleanly, in the fifty-sheet catering pack a busy sushi counter actually runs through. The quality grade for kitchens that want premium nori at volume. 125g, 50 full sheets.

More from our Japanese nori range: A+ grade, 8 sheets, B grade, 50 sheets, Kōmi B grade, 8 sheets, snack nori and nori powder. Keep them crisp in our nori storage tin.

Why Chefs Choose This

  • Premium grade: A grade, fine and glossy, a step up from everyday B grade.
  • Strong enough to roll: holds seams and cuts cleanly, unlike the more delicate A+.
  • Catering pack: 50 sheets, sized for a working sushi station.
  • Japanese-grown: cultivated and made in Japan, not a Korean or Chinese import.

How to Use

  • Rolls: hosomaki, futomaki and temaki with a premium finish.
  • Nigiri: a fine band where you want better-looking nori than B grade.
  • Platters: lay flat under sashimi and nigiri as a presentation base.
  • Garnish: cut into strips to finish where appearance matters.

Nori (海苔) is laver, a seaweed grown on nets in shallow coastal water, then washed, pressed into sheets and dried much like paper. Japan grades it from A+ down, on colour, sheen, aroma and thickness; A grade is the premium tier just below the top, fine and refined but still strong enough for rolling. Every nori we sell is grown and made in Japan, which is rarer than it sounds, as most nori on UK shelves is grown in Korea or China. Ours is cultivated in the south of Japan and finished by Yamagataya, a Shizuoka nori house, then graded to the Japanese standard. We only sell Japanese nori.

What is A grade nori?

A grade is the premium tier of the Japanese nori system, one step below the top A+. The sheets are fine, glossy and deeply savoury, with a clean briny aroma, but they keep enough body to roll, wrap and cut without crumbling. That balance, near the refinement of A+ with the working strength closer to B grade, is why it suits a kitchen that wants its nori to look and taste premium while still standing up to service. It is a noticeable step up from everyday B grade for the same jobs.

Type Yaki-nori 海苔 (roasted laver)
Brand Shokunin (made by Yamagataya, Shizuoka)
Grade A (premium)
Origin Japan (grown in southern Japan)
Pack 50 full sheets (125g)
Best Used As Premium rolls, nigiri and platters at volume
What is the difference between A grade and B grade nori?

A grade is finer, glossier and more refined, the premium choice where you want the nori to look and taste a cut above. B grade is the everyday kitchen standard, a touch thicker and more robust, and more economical for high-volume rolling. Both are grown and made in Japan to the same standards; the grade reflects delicacy and appearance, not freshness or origin. Choose A grade for premium presentation, B grade for everyday volume.

Where is your nori from?

All of it is Japanese. The nori is grown in the south of Japan and finished by Yamagataya, a Shizuoka nori house, then graded to the Japanese system. That matters because most nori sold in the UK is actually grown in Korea or China; true Japanese nori is uncommon here. We only sell Japanese nori, across every grade in the range.

How do I keep nori crisp once opened?

Nori draws in moisture from the air and softens within hours, so keep it sealed with its desiccant sachet, or in an airtight tin, in a cool, dry cupboard, and reseal after each use. If sheets soften, a few seconds over a low flame or in a dry pan crisps them straight back up. Roll just before service so the nori keeps its snap.

Not the Fetch-Fest I Hoped For
Color: Orange
I had high hopes for the PetDroid Interactive Dog Ball, especially with the newly upgraded features and promises of durable, motion-activated fun. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to expectations for my furry friend. Here’s why I’m giving it 2 stars. Promising Features, Lackluster Results The idea behind this toy is fantastic: a durable, motion-activated ball that would entertain my dog without much effort on my part. The ball is supposed to roll around on its own, keeping my dog engaged and active. However, in practice, it just didn’t capture my dog’s interest. Durability I will give credit where it’s due: the ball is well-made and seems durable. It can withstand some rough handling, which is great for more aggressive chewers. Unfortunately, durability doesn’t mean much if your dog won’t play with it in the first place. Motion Activation The motion activation feature is hit or miss. While the ball does move around as advertised, it didn’t seem to move in a way that intrigued my dog. He gave it a sniff, watched it for a minute, and then walked away, unimpressed. I tried multiple times to get him interested, but he simply wasn’t having it. Lack of Engagement The biggest issue is that the ball just didn’t engage my dog at all. It might be more suitable for a different personality type or breed, but for my pooch, it was a total flop. He’s usually quite playful and curious, so I was surprised by his lack of interest. Final Thoughts Overall, the PetDroid Interactive Dog Ball might work for some dogs, but it was a miss for mine. If your dog is easily entertained by automated toys, it might be worth a try. However, based on my experience, I can’t wholeheartedly recommend it. Pros: Durable construction Motion-activated as advertised Cons: Did not engage my dog Motion activation wasn’t intriguing enough Might be more suitable for specific dog types or personalities If you decide to give it a shot, just be prepared for the possibility that your dog might not find it as entertaining as you hope. For us, it’s back to the drawing board for a more engaging toy.

Pup Loves It, Some Other Notes
Color: Orange
We've had this for about six months and my 75 lb, 14-month-old German Shepherd pup LOVES IT. Her favorite is "Crazy Bouncing Mode." In fact, she doesn't care much for the normal mode. She chews it a lot - even drops it in her water bowl at times - and it's still going strong. This is a great purchase. It's nice hands-off entertainment. Do know that it is heavy compared to a normal ball - if your pup likes dropping it on the ground like mine does, it will land with a hard "thud," even with the included sleeve. Hopefully you don't have downstairs neighbors. Also know that the cover that goes over the charging port is removable and your dog may choke on it if they chew it in just the right manner. Definitely only let the pup play with it while supervised. All in all, great toy.

Our German Sheppard loves these
Size: Medium
These cost a bit more than tennis balls, but they are so much nicer and longer lasting. For starters, they stay cleaner than tennis balls because they’re smooth rubber. Dirt won’t build up on them and if anything does stick, like grass or soil, it falls off once the dog slobber dries. They’re also thick, so they don’t fall apart or blow out like a normal tennis ball does in our dog’s jaws after 30 seconds. Our GS chomps on these like crazy and the only damage they’ve suffered is a crack that developed from the edge of the hole, but the crack is growing very slowly and none of these balls have totally failed yet. The balls do whistle when thrown ant high speed and that may help a dog track and locate it, but I’m not sure. Our neighbors hear the whistling too so it’s far from silent. Lastly the orange ball is easy to locate out in our yard, but the dark blue practically disappears.

Great for smaller dogs
Size: Small
These two balls are perfect for the smaller mouthed dog that loves to play fetch. These balls are not only super durable (lots of teeth biting), but float in the baby pool we use for our miniature dachshunds. The value here is much better than you’d find anywhere else. The noise, if bitten hard enough, was “low” at best. Easy to spot/find if overthrown. Will definitely buy again once these are in bad repair; so far, so good-love these for my fur babies!
