The original Military model is what Spyderco founder Sal Glesser designed after being asked what knife he would send with his child into the military, if need be. The original was a long, stout folder designed to have impressive reach and be easily operable with one hand, with or without gloves on. It featured a liner lock and single position, tip down carry pocket clip.
The updated Military 2 builds upon the innovations showcased in the ParaMilitary 2, and combines them with the formidable size of the original Military model. The Millie 2 features a long 4+ inch blade, G10 handle scales, nested steel liners, and like the Paramilitary 2 a compression locking mechanism and 4-way reversible clip.
This version of the Military 2 is supercharged with CPM-15V blade steel. This incredible high speed tool steel is one of the highest wear resistance steels on the planet, boasting (as the name would suggest) a whopping 15% vanadium. This huge amount of vanadium, alongside other elements such as tungsten, form an incredible volumes of carbides. This special steel is enhanced even further with a heat treatment that Spyderco developed alongside acclaimed custom knife maker Shawn Houston (Triple B Handmade). Shawn's heat treating expertise was put to full effect in this project, and the results are incredible wear resistance, impressive toughness and edge stability, and surprising sharpenability. Just make sure you are using a hard, diamond or CBN abrasive.
