The Allied Telesis x230 Series Layer 3 switches deliver a robust and scalable access solution for today’s networks, offering Gigabit connectivity to the desktop while enabling smart edge routing and traffic control. With 24 copper 10/100/1000T ports and 2 x 100/1000X SFP fiber uplinks, this switch accommodates dense workstation deployments and flexible uplink configurations to distribution layers or core campus networks. PoE+ capable models provide a streamlined option for powering wireless access points, IP cameras, and other PoE devices directly from the switch, reducing clutter and simplifying deployment. Built to meet the needs of small to mid-size enterprises, branch offices, and campus edge environments, the x230 Series blends performance, manageability, and value into a compact, reliable solution. Whether you’re modernizing an existing network or designing a new one, this L3 switch supports efficient traffic routing, strong security, and scalable growth as your organization expands.

  • Versatile port mix for flexible layouts: 24 x 10/100/1000T interfaces paired with 2 x 100/1000X SFP fiber uplinks give you abundant copper connections for desktops and scalable fiber paths to distribution or core layers.
  • Layer 3 routing at the edge: Designed for efficient inter-VLAN routing, the switch handles routing tasks at the access layer, reducing latency and backhaul traffic while enabling policy-based routing and streamlined network segmentation.
  • PoE+ ready on compatible models: PoE+ support powers compatible wireless APs, IP cameras, and other devices directly from the switch, simplifying deployment in conference rooms, hallways, and outdoor-safe zones where outlets are scarce.
  • Enterprise-grade management and security: Access and monitor the network via a web-based GUI or CLI, with features such as ACLs, QoS, and secure management to protect data and prioritize critical applications.
  • Ideal for SMBs and branch networks: The x230 L3 switch is purpose-built for access-layer deployments that demand reliable Gigabit performance, easy provisioning, and scalable uplinks to support growing device density and traffic.

how to install Allied Telesis L3 Switch

To install and configure this switch effectively, begin with a standard, methodical approach that ensures safe operation and reliable connectivity. Start by verifying the box contents against the packing list and inspecting the device for any shipping damage. Install the switch in a suitable location—either a standard 19-inch rack or a stable table/desk with adequate ventilation and clearance for cable management. Connect the device to a power source and power it on. Prepare a management station (laptop or PC) with network access to the switch’s management interfaces. Access the switch via the web GUI or connect a console cable if required for initial setup. Assign a management IP address on a dedicated management VLAN and secure access with strong administrator credentials. Next, configure the basic network parameters: define VLANs as needed, assign ports to appropriate VLANs, enable inter-VLAN routing on the L3 device, and establish any necessary static routes or routing protocols. If you plan to use PoE+, confirm the SKU supports PoE+ and configure PoE settings to allocate power to connected devices within the switch’s power budget. Enable QoS for critical applications like voice, video, or real-time data, and apply security features such as access control lists (ACLs) and secure management access. Finally, save the configuration, install device firmware updates if available, and test connectivity between desktops, wireless APs, IP cameras, and uplink ports. Maintain a scheduled routine for backups and firmware maintenance to ensure long-term reliability.

2 for 1!
Two iterations of an Ernest Hemingway classic short story. Burt Lancaster kicks it off with the 1946 version followed by the Lee Marvin led 1964 version. Both are great and plenty of criterion extras making this among my favorite spine in their awesome collection. There’s also a Russian student take on the short story adding a third version of a great story. Highly recommended and if it’s 50% a must buy. I already owned it and gave this as a gift who instantly called me two days later with high praise of the films.

A Favorite All-Time Classic
I've always enjoyed this classic film. Ava Gardner is my favorite all-time actress. She's great in the role of Kitty. Burt Lancaster is also fine as the torn man in love with a woman he struggles to have. This is based on one of Hemingway's short stories, and they did a fine job. Same with the remake in 1964 with Lee Marvin and Clu Gulagher. You will not be disappointed in either version, but my favorite is the orignal.

1 Ernest Hemingway story, 2 different movie takes, very cool.
I like value. Two movie versions of a cool story for the price of one, I am in. The Burt Lancaster version is film noir cool, while the Lee Marvin has that manic 60’s television feel. The Lee Marvin version gets bonus for Ronald Reagan’s portrayal of the heavy. He is quite menacing.
