For a long time, fresh black winter truffles were a luxury reserved only for the cold months of the Northern Hemisphere. Australia changed everything. Grown in the pristine, nutrient-rich soils of Western Australia and Tasmania, these truffles are the exact same species (Tuber Melanosporum) as the famous French Périgord. Because Australia’s winter occurs during the Northern Hemisphere’s summer, you can now enjoy that intense, earthy, and chocolatey winter truffle flavor in the middle of July. It is a culinary miracle that ensures gourmet perfection all year round.

Meticulously Cultivated for Intense Aroma and Flavor

Luca's Australian truffles are the same species as the European black winter truffle. The gleba is black, marked with thin, dense whitish veins. The surface features pyramidal warts and dark shades. The Australian winter truffle season aligns precisely with the European season, offering fresh truffles in June, July, and August.

Advantages

  • Off-Season Availability: The only way to get "Winter" quality truffles during the Northern Hemisphere's summer months.

  • Identical Species: These are genuine Tuber Melanosporum, offering the same rich, musky, and umami-packed profile as European winter truffles.

  • Strict Quality Control: Australian exports are subject to rigorous grading standards, ensuring you receive only firm, aromatic, and well-marbled specimens.

  • Sustainable Farming: Grown using advanced, environmentally conscious methods in the clean, unpolluted regions of Australia.

  • Global Shipping Efficiency: Expertly packed in temperature-controlled environments to maintain "just-harvested" freshness across the globe.

How to Store Your Fresh Australian Truffles

Australian truffles are robust, but they still require a "cold chain" to stay fresh after their long journey.

  1. Unpack Immediately: Remove the truffles from their shipping container as soon as they arrive.

  2. Dry and Wrap: Gently pat them dry and wrap them individually in fresh, unperfumed paper towels.

  3. Contain the Aroma: Place the wrapped truffles in an airtight glass jar or plastic container to prevent the scent from filling your entire fridge.

  4. Coolest Zone: Store in the main body of the refrigerator at a steady temperature (around 2°C to 4°C).

  5. Daily Maintenance: Change the paper towel every 24 hours to prevent moisture from sitting on the surface of the truffle.

  6. Peak Window: For the most intense experience, use within 5 to 7 days of arrival.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q: Are Australian truffles "fake" or synthetic?

A: Not at all! They are 100% natural, fresh Tuber Melanosporum. They are the exact same biological species as the French Black Winter Truffle; they simply grow on the other side of the world.

Q: Why do they grow in the summer?

A: They actually grow in the Australian Winter (June, July, and August). Because Australia's seasons are the opposite of the US and Europe, we get to enjoy fresh winter truffles while it’s summer in the North.

Q: How do I serve Australian Black Truffles?

A: Treat them exactly like a French Winter Truffle. Shave them over buttery pasta, creamy scrambled eggs, or use them to infuse a rich sauce for a Wagyu steak.

Q: Do they taste different from European truffles?

A: Most top chefs agree that high-quality Australian truffles are indistinguishable from European ones. They offer the same deep, forest-floor aroma and savory "umami" punch.

Not for all surfaces.
Size: 11.5 Wide, Color: Black Leather/Optic White
The sneakers look great and are comfortable on flat, smooth surfaces. Warning: The sole is very flexible and not well cushioned so a walk on rough or uneven surfaces can become uncomfortable quickly. Just understand the limitations.

Look great for dress up up casual
Size: 13, Color: Black Leather/Optic White
I wear them every day for work. They are comfortable and light. I will say I was frustrated with the crease in the top that started the first time I wore them but other than that they are a great pair of shoes.

Hard to Beat for the Price
Size: 10 Wide, Color: Tan Leather Burnished
I purchased these for a business trip to Italy and wore them daily for the two weeks that I was there, during which I walked extensively. For me, there was a break-in period of a few days; before it loosens up, it will bite your heel, so I recommend wearing bandages or heel pads initially. Following the break-in, it's a very comfortable shoe and has served me well. I purchased a wide, and for this shoe, I found the width agreeable; in my experience, Cole Haan wide widths tend to be hit or miss (i.e., a wide is sometimes not all that wide). In terms of durability, I would not expect these to remain in good condition for more than a year if you wear them daily. The leather is not of high quality, but it's acceptable for the price. Expect them to crease very quickly if not using shoe trees. That doesn't bother me, but I know some find it objectionable. All in all, I like them and would buy them again. It's a comfortable alternative to traditional dress shoes for the office and works equally well for casual wear. Most higher quality options cost at least two or three times as much, and many are unavailable in a wide.
