Stiallach means striped or stripy in Gaelic - perfect for this very stripy collection of purses and bags.

There are six patterns in total, all working from the same central striped theme. This pattern is 12 pages long with comprehensive notes, charts and instructions:

1 - Coin Purse 1 - sized to hold a bit of money and your travel/debit cards. 11cm wide & 8cm high. 
2 - Coin Purse 2 - sized to hold a bit of money and your travel/debit cards. 11cm wide & 8cm high. 
3 - Festival Purse - the perfect size to take to festivals and days out. It will fit the festival essentials (money, make-up, phone). 16cm wide & 12cm high. 
4 - Clutch Purse - a decent sized bag for a night out. It will even house your sun shades. 21cm wide & 16cm high.
5 - Handbag - It does what it says on the tin. 28.5cm wide & 29cm high. 
6 - Laptop Bag - It easily fits a MacBook Pro. 28.5cm wide & 37.5cm high.

The pattern structure is simple once you have mastered intarsia crochet. All of the projects are worked in rows apart from the base of the handbag/laptop bag which is worked in the round.

Pattern Tutorial: To accompany this pattern I have created a pattern tutorial. This is available through a private YouTube link that can only be accessed by people that have bought the Stiallach Collection.

The tutorial takes you through the materials needed and key elements such as changing colours, intarsia crochet, yarn management, adding zips/linings and seaming up etc.

Yarn: Erika Knight Gossypium Cotton 50g/100m (109yds) 

Yarn substitutes: Something with the same or very similar meterage.  It can be a different blend but be aware that meterage requirements will change if you substitute yarns.  Other cotton-based yarns of similar weights can also be used, such as the Yarn and Colours Charming range which is a cotton/acrylic mix. You need a yarn with a high twist that can create a dense, durable fabric but won't be harsh to work with. 

Hook: 2.5mm and 3mm (C/2 and D/3) 
Tension/Gauge: 21sts and 24 rows over 10cm (unblocked).

Coin Purses 2.5 hours 
Festival Purse - 6 hours 
Clutch Purse - 10 hours 
Handbag - 16 hours (plus time to line) 
Laptop Bag - 19 hours (plus time to line)

Meterage: 
Coin Purses - 52m each 
Festival Purse - 110m 
Clutch Purse - 184m 
Handbag - 536m 
Laptop Bag - 628m

Yarn usage (g): 
Laptop Bag + Coin Purse (acts as your tension swatch) - 3 x 50g Yarn A (131g used), 3 x 50g Yarn B (107g used) & 2 x 50g Yarn C (76g used).

Handbag + Coin Purse (acts as your tension swatch) - 3 x 50g Yarn A (111g used), 2 x 50g Yarn B (86g used) & 2 x 50g Yarn C (71g used).

Clutch Purse - 1 x 50g Yarn A (38g used), 1 x 50g Yarn B (27g used) & 1 x 50g Yarn C (27g used). You will have just enough to make a Coin Purse as well, though you may want to swap Yarn A around with one of the other colours.

Festival Purse - 1 x 50g Yarn A (24g used), 1 x 50g Yarn B (15g used) & 1 x 50g Yarn C (16g used). You will have enough to make a Coin Purse as well.

Coin Purse 1/2 - 1 x 50g Yarn A (13g used), 1 x 50g Yarn B (7g used), 1 x 50g Yarn C (6g used).

Pattern Pricing

I now operate a ‘pay what you can’ scale for my electronic/downloadable single patterns.  I usually charge £8 for this pattern and to encourage access for all crafters, these are now available on a scale of £6 - £10 and you chose what you can afford within that scale. 

Please note that this doesn’t apply to my hard copy of this pattern, which remains priced at £8 and comes with an automatic digital download.

Pattern format 

Stiallach Bag Collection is a twelve-page document.  If you are purchasing a printed copy, it is A4 sized with large, clear text.

Weights given are approximated to provide the best estimate for postage and packaging costs only.

Product materials, sourcing and PoM Rating

This product was originated by me at Fay Dashper-Hughes Designs.  I work with a local printer and they help me to source recycled paper for my patterns.  This pattern is printed on paper that is 50% recycled coffee cups and 50% virgin fibre.

The P&P costs applied are very transparent.  No additional costs are added on, you simply pay for the cost of packaging and the cost of postage.  I don't offer free P&P because what that usually means is that the cost of P&P has been added to the cost of goods.  I think it is better to assume that my customers aren't daft and would rather have transparent P&P costs than the pretence of 'Free P&P' with inflated prices on the items that they are buying.
