BIG DAVE REVIEW
These tires and all specialty snow tires I have seen are recaps. This is not a bad thing. Typically the tire is re-caped with a high quality specialized re-cap or re-tread. The rubber compound and the tread are designed for maximum performance. The rims are always new. The question about studs or no studs? Studs will mark a surface area. So I don't recommend them on blacktop or special surfaces.
What creates the performance.
- Ground Pressure - the narrow tire creates more down pressure.
- Tread pattern - The tread pattern is designed for optimal performance in the snow
- Rubber Compound - The softness of the compound enhances the performance of the tires traction.
